President Buhari has reacted to the recent bomb attacks in Chibok market, Dolari Internally Displaced Person’s (IDP) camp in Borno State and the Gombi market in Adamawa State.
In a statement signed by the Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Shehu Garba and released this evening, President Buhari said the insurgents had suffered immensely from the sustained bombardments of their camps and hide outs by the Nigerian military and had resorted to using desperate measures to gain cheap media attention.

At least 100 reportedly killed during Boko haram attack on Dalori near Maiduguri


At least 100 people were reportedly killed during an attack by Boko Haram members on Dalori, a settlement located on the outskirt of Maiduguri, the Borno state capital yesterday January 30th.
Sahara Reporters reports that the sect members dressed in military uniforms, had stormed the village in 10 Hilux buses and motorcycles and started shooting sporadically and setting houses ablaze.

The crisis in the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) may have assumed an irredeemable dimension with strong indications last week that some top leaders have been meeting to discuss plans to form a new political party.


The plans, Daily Trust on Sunday reliably gathered, are being spearheaded by the trio of former governor of Kano State and former Education minister Mallam Ibrahim Shekarau, former governor of Jigawa State Sule Lamido and former Deputy Senate President Ibrahim Mantu.

French language now compulsory for every student in Nigeria:FG

Students from primary to tertiary institutions will henceforth learn French language compulsorily, the federal government said at the weekend.

It said it will embark on intensive training of more French teachers in its bid to make it the nation’s second official language.

The Minister of State for Education, Prof Anthony Anwukah, stated these in Abuja yesterday when the French Ambassador to Nigeria, Denys Gaver, paid him a courtesy call.

Black marketers behind fire outbreaks - Kano Fire Service

The Kano State Fire Service on Saturday cautioned black marketeers against selling fuel in or around residential houses in the state.

The State Director of the agency, Alhaji Balarabe Kabara, gave the warning in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Kano.

He said the warning became necessary following incessant fires in the state especially in Kano metropolis.

Not less than 10 killed as suicide bomber hit Bauchi

Up to 10 people were killed when a suicide bomber blew himself up on Friday at a busy market in a town in Bauchi where the Boko Haram group is waging an insurgency, residents and a Red Cross official told Reuters.

Boko Haram has been waging an almost seven-year campaign in Nigeria’s remote north to build an Islamic state. Thousands have been killed and more than two million people displaced by the campaign.

NAF bombard Boko Haram hideouts in Borno

The military in Maiduguri, Borno State, said on Saturday that more air strikes have been launched on Boko Haram targets and locations by the Air Component team of Operation Lafiya Dole as part of efforts to locate the Chibok girls and by extension wipe out the insurgents.

The Deputy Theatre Commander (Air), Operation Lafiya Dole, Air Vice Marshal Isiaka Oladayo Amao, said this at a press briefing held at the media centre of Operation Lafiya Dole in Maiduguri, Borno State.

Respite came today (Friday), for Rahma Haruna, a limbless 19-year old girl of Lahadin Makole in Dawakin Kudu local government area of Kano state when the state Commissioner for Women Affair, Barr. Zubaida Damakka Abubakar, presented empowerment to her family.
Rahma, who has no functional limbs but tiny appendages in the position of arms and legs, is being moved about in a synthetic washbasin by a young cousin, to beg for alms in Kano city, about 26 kilometers from her village. The earnings help in sustaining the family of four.

$2.1bn arms deal: EFCC operative arrested for collecting N45m bribe from indicted military officers



The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has arrested one of its operatives, Abdulrahman Mohammed Biu, a Deputy Detective Superintendent for allegedly collecting $150,000 (about N45 million) from seven yet to be named military officers currently under investigation for their involvement in the $2.1 billion arms procurement fraud.

Jigawa state government to sponsor 60 students for medical abroad

The Jigawa state government has set aside the sum of N900 million to sponsor 60 students for the study of medicine in the Republic of China.

This was disclosed by the state’s commissioner of Health, Dr Abba Zakar, yesterday while fielding question from newsmen on the level of preparation for and departure of the students.

Dr Abba Zakari Umar explained that Governor Badaru’s administration had promised to sponsor 200 students from the state to study medicine and nursing in China in its bid to produce enough manpower required to achieve its policy on health for all.

Elrufai suspends traditional ruler for drug offence

KADUNA State government has announced the immediate suspension of a traditional ruler over alleged involvement in drug-related offence.
Officials of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) on January 20, 2016 allegedly arrested Alhaji Ibrahim Danladi with 1.5kg of marijuana.

Danladi, who is the village head of Goma in Gimi district of Sanga local council of the state, reportedly admitted ownership of the illegal drug. NDLEA officials said he would be charged as soon as investigations are concluded.

Former Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Olusola Amosu has been detained by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
Daily Trust learnt that the retired air force chief has been in detention since Wednesday.
He was yet to be released at the time of filing this report.
Amosu is one of the former and serving military chiefs being investigated over $2.1 billion arms procurement fund which were allegedly diverted for political campaigns by former National Security Adviser Col. Sambo Dasuki.

An aide to former President Goodluck Jonathan yesterday installed himself as the national chairman of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in dramatic fashion.
Ahmed Gulak, political adviser to Jonathan, stormed the party headquarters at Wadata Plaza with 10 other supporters and proclaimed himself the national chairman.


Jonathan’s party has been without a substantive chairman since Ahmed Mu’azu resigned on May 20, last year after Jonathan lost the election to President Muhammadu Buhari in April last year.
Prince Uche Secondus, who is the deputy national chairman, has been acting as the chairman since then.

Not less than 10 killed as suicide bombers strike Chibok community


No fewer than 10 people have been confirmed dead in a suicide attack in Chibok community in Borno state. Residents say 5 suicide bombers entered into the community this morning. Three of them successfully detonated the bomb on them while two others are still at large. More details later.

According to Aishat who shared this photo of Naseerdeen, on January 24, he was kidnapped along with his sister in Marafa (police college) Kaduna State, on their way to a mosque close to their home.

Yahaya Bello sworn in as Kogi state governor


Yahaya Bello has been sworn in as the governor of Kogi state. He was sworn in this morning at a ceremony still happening in the state. Yahaya became governor in a controversial supplementary election that was conducted after APC's governorship candidate, Prince Audu Abubakar, died suddenly during the governorship election in November last year.

Meanwhile James Faleke who ran as deputy governor with Abubakar did not attend the ceremony.

Kaduna State Governor, Malam Nasir el-Rufai earlier yesterday visited the scene of the inferno at the Station Market in Kaduna local government area of the state. The market was gutted by fire last night and three almajiris who sleep in the shops reportedly burnt beyond recognition.

The Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Godwin Emefiele, says the Apex bank has no immediate plan to devalue the Naira despite the continued downward slide of the Naira. Emefiele said this after the meeting of the bank's Monetary Policy Committee yesterday January 26th.

Borno Elders say those involved in arms deal scandal are the real Boko Haram sponsors


The Borno Elders Forum has alleged that all those that have been accused of misappropriating $2.1 billion arms fund are the real sponsors of Boko Haram. The group made the allegation in a statement signed by their chairman, Ambassador Gaji Galtimari and released yesterday Jan. 21st.The statement reads in part;
“Much has been said about the sponsors of Boko Haram. With the horrifying revelations about the ‘Arms Deal’, it is no longer necessary to continue delaying the search for the real sponsors of Boko Haram.

N50 Stamp Duty Is Per Transaction, Not Per N1000 – CBN


The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has clarified that the N50 stamp duty imposed on bank customers is to be charged per transaction and not per volume of N1,000. Hence, irrespective of the amount, the sum of N50 is to be charged provided such a transaction is N1000 and above.
