The family of detained former Governor of Sokoto state, Alhaji Attahiru Bafarawa, has asked the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to charge their son to court.
They
decried the continued detention of the former Governor, adding that he
should be released if there is no evidence against him.
According to ThisDay Newspapers, the family released a statement through Bafarawa’s media aide, Alhaji Yusuf Dingyadi, saying “Today
is one week since Bafarawa was detained by the EFCC. And today marks
two weeks that his son Sagir Bafarawa has been in detention. Why are
they being detained without charges? If the EFCC has any evidence that
they have committed any crime it should charge them to court.
"We
thought that the era of detaining people while searching for evidence
was over. We call on the EFCC to release them forthwith if they have
nothing against them."
Bafarawa was arrested in connection with the $2.1b arms purchase scam, involving the former National Security Adviser (NSA), Sambo Dasuki.
The former Governor was also accused of receiving N4.6bn from the former NSA for spiritual purposes.
Bafarawa has since denied receiving any money from the former National Security Adviser (NSA) Sambo Dasuki.
Alhaji Attahiru Bafarawa was Governor of Sokoto State from 29 May 1999 to 29 May 2007.
