Suspected Cattle Rustlers Massacre 50 in Zamfara

About 50 villagers were reportedly killed on Saturday in Zamfara State by unknown gunmen suspected to be cattle rustlers.
The assailants, who besieged Kwanar Dutse community in Maru Local Government Area of the state, also razed half of the houses in the community.
Eyewitnesses said the gunmen attacked the community when residents were asleep.

A resident, Mr. Salisu Musa, said the bandits came prepared to wreak havoc.
“I rushed to my door and peeped through a hole and spotted many motorcycles, each loaded with three persons armed with heavy rifles,” he said.
He said he was horrified when he heard sporadic gunshots followed by the wailing of men, women and children being killed in cold blood.
He said the gunmen operated till dawn without the intervention of the military or the police.
Musa said from his estimate during the burial of the deceased, 50 persons must have lost their lives in the attack.
Another witness, Hamza Bula, said he was awoken by the sounds of gunshots all over the community.
“I quickly realised that our community was attacked by insurgents.”
He said the insurgents moved from house to house in a highly coordinated operation, killing everyone in sight.
It was gathered that the gunmen, at the end of the attack, left unchallenged with an unspecified number of cattle.
The state police command’s spokesperson, DSP Sanusi Amiru, however said that only 12 people were killed in the attack, adding that police and the military were drafted to the area to restore peace and provide security for the community.
