Saraki Denies Secret Communication With SGF
Senate President, Bukola Saraki, has petitioned the Department of State Security (DSS) over a publication made by an online news medium, Sahara Reporters, which alleged that he had been making secret phone calls with officials of the Federal Ministry of Justice over suspected ploy to alter documents that could help him escape indictment at the Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT).
Senator Saraki is facing a controversial trial over his alleged false asset declaration during his tenure as Kwara state governor.
Saraki’s petition to DSS Director which was dated March 17, 2016, amply denied ever having any form of virtual or real interface with the two officials of the Federal Ministry of Justice.
In the two-paged petition, which he personally signed, the Senate President described the Sahara Reporters publication as “another false, unsubstantiated and unwarranted report published against his person.
Saraki denied Sahara Reporters’ claims that he had been “exchanging phone calls with two senior officials of the Federal Ministry of Justice – one Mr. Taiwo Abijogun who is the Solicitor General of the Federation and one Mr. Diri who is to be the Director of Public Prosecution.
The Senate President said the publication suggested that he was colluding with the two officials of the ministry of Justice to sabotage his prosecution over the Declaration of Assets case at the CCT in which he was the defendant.
“What this publication is insinuating is that I am involved in illegal activities aimed at prejudicing a judicial matter while also corrupting and inducing officials”, said a worried Saraki.
He also lamented that Sahara Reporters had, by their publication, exposed him to unquantifiable security threats by quoting two of his personal numbers.
“I have been subjected to unwarranted and nuisance calls. This breach of constitutional right by the medium if allowed, will lead to threats to security and safety of private persons and public officers alike.
“I want to state categorically that I do not know the ministry of Justice officials mentioned in the story. I have never seen them before and neither have I ever exchanged phone calls or any form of communication with either of the two persons mentioned in the story”.
