Kano invites journalists to assess its projects
The Kano State Government said it was ready to allow working journalists in the state to visit and assess projects it executed within the last one year.The Commissioner for Information, Malam Muhammad Garba, disclosed this on Saturday while distributing food items to the executive members of various chapels of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, Kano State Council at the NUJ Press Centre in Kano.Garba said the state government had considered the move as an opportunity to not only partner but also give journalists and the public a chance to scrutinise the projects so far executed by the administration in the last one year.He said the Abdullahi Ganduje administration was prepared to support journalists with necessary logistics to assess the projects.He said: “We will give a free hand to the gentlemen of the press to go around and see things for themselves without any government official going with them.Advertisement“Since we came on board, we have never taken any journalist to court for either airing or writing amischievous report.“We are not unmindful of the smear campaign being orchestrated by some media houses against our government even though we know it is an indisputable fact that they have professionally derailed.”In his remarks, the state Deputy Governor, Prof. Hafiz Abubakar, described the media as an indispensable organ of development under a democratic setting.Abubakar, who, was represented by the Governor’s Senior Special Adviser in the office of the Deputy Governor, Dr. Bakari Sanusi, however said no responsible government would love to take journalists for a ride.According to him, journalists play important roles in national development.
