Mohammed Alkali, Policeman killed in Rivers rerun buried in Bosso
Mr Mohammed Alkali, a deputy superintendent of Police killed on Saturday in Rivers State, while on election duty, was buried in Bosso, Niger State, on Monday.
Alkali was killed along with some of his colleagues in the violence that characterised the rerun elections to fill vacant legislative seats.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), reports that the corpse, which arrived Minna at about 1.30 p.m., was received by the deceased’s father, Alhaji Yakubu Alkali, a retired Commissioner of Police, family members and many sympathizers.
The funeral rites were witnessed by top government officials that included Alhaji Zubairu Muazu, Commissioner of Police in Niger.
The deceased is survived by his parents, one wife and three children.
Alkali Mohammed, a DSP with Mobile Police Unit 48, and his orderly were killed by hoodlums on Saturday at Ujju community near Omoku in Ogba/Edema/Ndoni council area, during the rerun elections in Rivers state.
The General Officer Commanding (GOC) the newly-created 6 Division of the Army in Port Harcourt, Maj.-Gen. Kasimu Abdulkarim said the hoodlums snatched the police patrol vehicle and weapons.
Three policemen escaped, but five were still “missing in action” in Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni Local Government Area of Rivers, where the state’s Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Chief Felix Obuah, hails from, said Abdulkarim.
