Kogi APC mocks Bello on whistle-blowing policy
The ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kogi State has described the recent whistle-blowing policy introduced by Governor Yahaya Bello as a charade, saying the copycat act is a caricature of President Muhammadu Buhari-led Federal Government policy.
The party, in a statement signed by its state Chairman, Alhaji Haddy Ametuo, and made available to journalists in Lokoja, accused the governor of using the policy as smokescreen to cover up corruption that has been thriving under his watch.
“When the leader of our party, President Muhammadu Buhari, introduced the whistle-blowing policy, it was geared towards assisting the government to get valuable information on the recovery of looted funds and assets belonging to the government. “It is disheartening to hear that the Bello-led government is making mockery of the lofty idea in Kogi State by rewarding those that will expose critics of his government under the disguise of whistle-blower with the sum of N500, 000 of taxpayers’ money. “It is certainly far from what whistle-blowing concept is all about.
“He alleged that the Bello administration was oppressing and intimidating those who worked tirelessly for the victory of party, which he is enjoying today.
As part of its probity and accountability mandate, the Bello-led government had promised a cash reward of N500, 000 to any person with useful information that could lead to the arrest of criminals and people that spread false information capable of disrupting public peace.
A statement by his Chief Press Secretary (CPS), Mrs. Petra Akinti Onyegbule, in Lokoja said the move was aimed at consolidating the security efforts of the administration and ensuring peace and harmonious relationship amongst the people.
The statement noted that the present administration was out to ensure the reduction of crime and criminality in the state and curb the attitude of some politically sponsored persons who spread false information against the government with a view to causing disquiet and rancour amongst the people.
The government promised that every information given would be treated with utmost confidentiality.
