Why cotton farming is declining in Katsina

Cotton farmers in Katsina State have identified lack of improved seeds and low price of the produce as their major setback.
These have over the years resulted in the decline of cotton production in the state, making farmers to shift their attention to cultivation of other crops like soybeans, rice, maize and sorghum.A farmer in Malumfashi LGA, Alhaji Hamisu Abubakar Gora, who said he had been into cotton farming for over 27 years, blamed lack of improved seeds and poor price of the produce, compared with other crops, for the decline in the business.
“Over the years, many of us here have been discouraged from cultivating cotton because of poor seeds.

Death Of Kano Student In India: The Untold Story – Salihu Yakasai

It is often difficult to put forward facts and figures or advance reasons when emotions are high. This is even more so when a serious and solemn event like death is being used to appeal to sentiments and achieve a aim. That was the situation we found ourselves in Kano with the death in India of a Kano State student, Jibril Abubakar Jibril.
Jibril was until his death studying Pharmacy at the Bapuji Pharmacy College in India, on Kano State government scholarship.

While it was indeed painful to see tempers whipped up high by some people whose aims were actually not to commiserate with the deceased’s family or even sympathies with the suffering of the late student prior to his death but rather to use the unfortunate incidence for certain ends, one still felt the need for restraint to allow tempers calm before setting the record straight.

Traditional rulers to Buhari: Nigeria won’t disintegrate

Traditional rulers across the country have assured President Muhammadu Buhari that those beating the drum of division will fail.
The Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar III, spoke on their behalf at the Aso Rock Presidential Villa in Abuja yesterday at the breaking of Ramadan fast with the president.
Also present at the event were the Ooni of Ife, Oba Enitan Ogunwusi; the Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II; Etsu Nupe, Yahaya Abubakar; Gbom Gwom Jos, Da Jacob Gyang Buba; Obi of Onitsha, Igwe Alfred Nnaemeka Achebe; Osemawe of Ondo, Oba Victor Kiladejo; Olu of Ilaro and paramount ruler of Yewaland, Oba Kehinde Olugbenle.
The Sultan, in his vote of thanks, prayed for God’s guidance and good health for President Buhari, saying in order to have the desired peace, all Nigerians must continue to pray for their leaders and the nation.
“The traditional rulers council will continue to support the president in his drive to leave a legacy that future generation will be proud of,” the Sultan assured.
He also expressed optimism that with everyone’s commitment, Nigeria would soon surmount her current challenges.
President Buhari charged the nation’s traditional rulers to encourage their followers to cultivate the lands available, saying Nigeria must be able to feed herself in few years’ time.
“You should therefore encourage your followers  to get ready and grow enough food to feed ourselves. Tell our people who have lands to cultivate them even if it is to feed their family only,” Buhari told the royal fathers.
The president said he assumed office at a difficult time in the history of Nigeria, with the security and economic challenges.
Buhari, who said his government was recording progress on security, said the economic challenge was due to the neglect of the agricultural sector.

Corps Members Disrupt NYSC Passing Out Parade In Kano Over Unpaid Allowances

Corps members today protested at the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) orientation camp inKaraye over the non-payment of their allowances. The protesters disrupted the passing-out parade attended by Kano State Commissioner of Information Moh'd Garba -demanding the payment of their allowances...Read via Sahara Reporters;Tensions heightened on Wednesday at the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) orientationcamp in Karaye when corps members belonging to Batch A, Stream 2 in Kano State staged a protest over the non-payment of their allowances. The protesters disrupted the passing-out parade attended by Kano State Commissioner of Information Moh'd Garba. While protesters demanded the payment of their allowances, Kano State NYSC Coordinator Malam Abdullai Yusuf Baba said the corps members should have received their first payment alerts either at 4 PM on Tuesday or early Wednesday morning.Mr. Garba was welcomed to the ceremony by corps members chanting, “Hey hey yawah go dey. Hey hey yawah go dey if allowee no pay, yawah go dey.” All attempts by Mr. Garba to calmdown the crowd failed as parade attendees began to leave the parade grounds. In an effort to assuage the protesters, Mr. Abdullahi promised to pay the corps members their allowances in cash before leaving the camp. The protest lasted over three hours before NYSCemployees eventually brought the money from the bank to pay the corps members their allowances.Speaking on the arrival of the allowance, Mr. Garba commended the corps members for not allowing the protest to devolve into a crisis.“I will not condemn you for expressing your displeasure. I know we are passing through a tense economic situation,” he told the protesters.Mr. Garba added, however, that they could have respected the Sarki Karaye, who he said was the representative of the Emir of Kano, Malam Mohammed Sanusi, by expressing their grievances in a subtle manner. The passing-out ceremony never came to pass, as after the money arrived, corps members rushed to collect their long-awaited allowances.

FCT Court did not sack Sheriff – Oladipo

Ousted chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Sen. Ali Modu Sheriff has dismissed the report of his sack by a Federal Capital Territory (FCT) High Court, describing the report as “false and a clear misrepresentation of the ruling of the court.”This was contained in a statement signed by Professor Adewale Oladipo, the National Secretary, who said the court delivered its judgement on certain amendments, which have nothing to do with the leadership of Sheriff. The statement reads in part:“Our attention has been drawn to reports circulating in the media that a Federal Capital Territory (FCT) High Court has ousted the National Chairman of the PDP, Sen. Ali-Modu Sheriff.“This is completely false and a clear misrepresentation of the ruling of the court as it never gave any ruling ousting the National Chairman.“For the avoidance of doubt, the court only heard and delivered judgment on a matter concerning certain amendments in the PDP constitution, which has nothing to do with the election of Senator Ali Modu Sheriff as the National Chairman or even that of his predecessor, Alhaji Adamu Muazu.“Senator Ali Modu Sheriff was duly elected as the National Chairman of the PDP. He still holds office as the National Chairman and has not beenremoved by any court.“We therefore urge those misleading the media and the unsuspecting public to desist from such. The media is also urged to always crosscheck their facts before going to press,” he stated.

The Diary of a Broken Heart episode 2

If you're just joining today read the previous episodes HERE

"Baa Kura" my other cousin thumped me on my back as in weldone sani. Allah ya sanya albarka. I was watching Ammi's mum too. She was happy about it all. Ammi's little sister was jumping and playing as though it's normal to be somehow betrothed to her sister just like that. My sisters Zainab and Aisha were roaring with laughter.  It was Ammi's eyes I wanted to catch. I couldn't explain the expression on her face. I couldn't tell if she heard it or not. Maybe her brains were slower than her little sisters’ I hoped. But I was sure she understood it. After all she's more matured than her age. She collected it and thanked my mum earnestly. She meant it when she thanked her. But there was this burning look on her face. Like fury, Like irritation, Like betrayal. Like she has been wronged.  She left us all without another word. Turning her back on all of us.

AMMI after thanking mum for the gift, left us there in our jubilation. I signaled mum to have a private word. She refused and kept saying very loudly you will thank me for doing this later. Mama vehemently refused to offer me any explanation for what she had done. And probably Ammi is mad. No wonder I thought I might have noticed in the look on her face that she felt betrayed.  I was hoping and waiting for our midnight gist and hira but nothing. She completely didn't come out of their room. The Female room and any time I go close to that room Aisha my sister with her dogon baki shouts out for everybody to hear that this is "dakin mata and what do I want"? I couldn't bring myself openly to say I want to talk to Ammi. I asked ammi's little sister why is Ammi not coming out. She said she's just lying down and playing games on her phone .

I asked her to discreetly tell her to come out and play games and to not let anyone hear her as she tells Ammi my message. Ammi sent her back that she's tired and wants to sleep. "Tapdi jam yau Ammi nacemun bacci take ji". I didn't know what to make of it.  Ammi's attitude towards me had changed instantly. She became as formal as if we were new colleagues at work. "Ina kwana" "Ina wuni" "Uncle Sani sai da safe" was all I was getting from her?  She wasn't smiling on top of it too. I couldn't believe what was happening. Someone I got along with so much has suddenly turned into a stranger. The feeling was a nightmare. I tried to assuage my conscience that in the matter of hours all shall be fine. Perhaps at night when she comes out to watch. I took comfort in thinking that she will pull through it and become as friendly. But sadly it didn't happen, I was distraught.  Two days left for them to go and I still couldn't reconcile. Come to think of it, reconcile what? Did I hurt her? What exactly have I done? Why would she feel betrayed? I shouted inside me that there is no "hakuri" to give. It was in one of my long walks outside towards Jabi Lake. It was really impossible for me to stay indoors again. I was becoming quiet and lonely and not my usual playful me. I went to walk by the lake all the time. The breeze was always sweet but not those days cause I was covered in horrible thoughts...  I was also escaping Aisha's (my immediate elder sister) senseless Jibes. Always making me feel embarrassed about everything.

Sometimes I wondered why somebody hasn’t come to marry her and take her far far away from me. She made it worse ten times. I felt lonelier, stressed, hurt, sad, and pessimistic about everything. I became very punctual at prayers and got all the raka'ahs. Though I mostly prayed with loads of tunani in my head. "Allah dai ya amshi ibadunmu". I wondered whether i was ever going to recover from this. I told myself I had to confront her. I didn't want her to go away with the impression that I made my mum buy all those stuffs for her. I was going to have to force her to believe me dat i never planned any of this with my mum. She must believe me. The target for this task was to tell her before they go. And mission must be accomplished.  I sadly couldn't bring myself up to confront her, I tried actually. Not once not twice but it was like she knew I was going for her. She stopped staying alone. She was always where everybody else was and gisting with them animatedly. There was no way I could go in on them and demand that she gives me a minute to talk to her privately.  Aisha will humiliate me. I decided to let everything go and settle for when they were leaving. I was sober. So annoyed with myself. That I couldn't even bring myself up to confront a common 17 year old. I slept with that big shame in my heart.  I was left to live with this thought for only God knows how long. The price of my cowardice. I resigned to stay fully away from her like the coward i was until the day they were leaving. The coward i have always been when it comes to women!!!  I didn't worry too much as their last day with us approached. I knew I must confront her somehow.  I thought an opportunity was bound to come. I couldn't believe all her fondness for me had vanished and evaporated just like that. All the support she rendered.  All the understanding she showed me.

All the plenty companionship I enjoyed. All gone over a set of some stupid jewelries. I was livid. I wanted to hit something.  But I was also curious.  Curious about making all this such a big deal.  Why am I so so worried over something this trivial?  Why? What for? Why won't I even keep quiet and let them go sef without saying a word at all? Why is it disturbing me this much? I couldn't think of any answer. Until I thought.......  What If I really liked her thats why?  What if I more than like her? I shivered at the thought that i love her. I have never had any real love all my life all thanks to my cowardice. I caught myself laughing it out that I love her and it's the only explanation. I stopped thinking it immediately. It was a horrible thought to me. She didn't like my mum forcing me on her so why would she listen and consider me if I said I loved her. Shirme....  The night before their departure for Maiduguri, I felt a rush of adrenalin to meet her and tell her what she needs to know. What she's got to understand. But then something about her kept me at bay. She was also struggling with something. Like something she wanted to tell me. We were all in the sitting room packed with everyone else.  It was our last family hira. So no one was missing.   But yes she was struggling with something too. I was more curious and confused.  What could she possibly want to tell me. It left me deep in thoughts. My mum stood up and announced that they should all go to bed.  They have a long journey from Abuja to Maiduguri tomorrow. Ammi's mum protested that haba, they don't know when next they will be coming to see us like this and that they will just sleep in the bus all through.   Soon after some more hira, One by one people started filing out to go to bed. I was thinking deeply and was becoming less aware of where I was until I heard someone say "sai da safe uncle sani" i looked up and it as ammi's little sister and Ammi too on their way to bed. I told myself now or never, but something stopped me. For Ammi was smiling at me for the first time in days and she said "sai da safe uncle sani".

FG Investigates, Clears Buratai over his Dubai Assets

The FG has reportedly investigated and cleared the Chief of Army Staff, Lt. General Tukur Buratai over his assets and military acquisitions, which has been in the news for some days now...

Last week, Sahara Reporters reported that the Army chief and his two wives used money meant for purchase of arms to buy properties in Dubai immediately after he came into office. The Army in response said Buratai and his wives had bought the properties using money from his life savings.

PRNigeria, the military under-cover media machinery, released a statement yesterday June 28th, saying the Federal government has cleared him of any wrong doing. According to the statement, the purchase of the buildings was made based on capital market principles of shareholding, meaning he had shares in companies that bought the buildings in question and does not own it completely. The statement also adds that Buratai is into a successful merchandised farming. The statement in part reads"The government, after investigating a recent media report over the acquisition of properties in Dubai, United Arab Emirates (UAE) by General Buratai, discovered that he and his wives invested as “shareholders” like many other persons in the properties mentioned in the publications and were not the sole owners. If you know the properties being referred to, you would know that they are like quoted companies. You buy into them and get dividends as profit from your investments. You can also do your own private findings on this fact”, a competent source told PRNigeria.

An intelligence military officer involved in the investigation also confirmed that apart from declaring the assets as required by law, “the Dubai property is real estate investment tailored to operate on capital market principles of shares for dividends and profits as proceeds from investment rather than total ownership of the property.” The source further disclosed that Lt. Gen. Buratai had been into farming since he was a major. “The large scale farm produces grains, cassavas, millets and also has fish pond apart from variety of animal and reptile that provides specialised nutrients and medicament for different clients. The 1999 Constitution (as amended) under Fifth Schedule Part 1- permits a public officer to engage in farming,” the officer said. While Defence Minister, Muhammad Mansur Dan-Ali has come out publicly to disclosethat the Army Chief did not hide the properties, ashe declared them on more than one occasion to both the Nigerian Army and Code of Conduct Bureau (CCB), other investigations further buttressed the transparency in all the deals. PRNigeria gathered that Lt-Gen. Buratai had declared his assets as Commander of the Multi-National Joint Task Force and as Chief of Army Staff to the Code of Conduct Bureau where all theassets were disclosed. It was also gathered that his two wives have been operating a quasi-micro finance social intervention scheme called ‘Sana’armu’ which means “our collective enterprise,” where they earn profits from soft-loanbusinesses that also help budding entrepreneurs to start their businesses. While it was discovered that General Buratai did not operate any Skye Bank account as alleged in the recent media report, the special rugged vehicles that were procured for counter-insurgency campaigns werefound to be brand new. The officer said: “The rugged buffalo vehicles are not only brand new but they are 2014 model that were imported from Libya rather than from Niger as alleged.” While there are suspicions that some officers affected in recent changes may be involved in the smear campaign against COAS, PRNigeria was reliably told that General Buratai has been more focused on the war on terror campaigns than engaging in the politics of witch-hunting anyone.

The officer said that “General Buratai has taken personal efforts to ensure that innocent officers are not unduly sanctioned and had suggested retirement rather than dismissal on some of the offences to protect the image of the military. “In fact that was the reason he always guards against disclosure of the identities of affected officers to avoid stigmatisation. Even though many officers and friends are disturbed about recent campaigns against him, General Buratai has remained calm leaving everything to God,” the source added.

Explain why you freeze Fayose’s account, Court orders EFCC, Zenith bank

The Federal High Court, Ado-Ekiti has ordered the Economic and FinancialCrimes Commission and the Zenith Bank plc to show cause why an OrderExparte to defreeze Governor Ayodele Fayose’s accounts, filed yesterday tothe court by the governor’s legal team, should not be granted. The judge gave Monday July 4 for the anti-graft agency and Zenith bank Plcto appear in court with the said evidence.Mr Mike Ozekhome (SAN), had through an exparte order deposed to on the24th of June, 2016 by Bimpe Olatemiju sought a mandatory order de-freezingthe accounts belonging and operated by him pending the determination ofhis interlocutory application.Joined in the suit are the EFCC (1st defendant) and Zenith bank (2nddefendant). The order was supported by 18-paragraph affidavit , a loneExhibit, which was a letter issued to Governor Fayose by Zenith bankconfirming that the EFCC actually placed arestriction order on theaccounts and a written address .He also sought the leave of the court for the service of the originatingsummons on the defendants in  their various addresses outside thejurisdiction of the court as contained on the order papers, supported by17-paragraph affidavit.Ozekhome said the order was brought pursuant to order 26 rule 8(1) of theFederal High Court Civil Procedure Rule 2009 and Section 44(1) of the 1999constitution which gives the court the discretionary powers to adjudicateon such matter.Citing the case of Abdulaziz Nyako Vs EFCC to buttress his position thatthe anti-graft agency has no power to freeze Fayose’s account withoutvalid court order, Ozekhome added the action was a flagrant negation ofthe Section 308 of the constitution, which conferred absolute immunity onthe government against civil and criminal procedure. He said it was appalling that the EFCC could play ostrich to these validconstitutional requirements and took cognizance of the African Charters onHuman and People’s Rights before taking the punitive stand against Fayose, adding that these infractions had renderedthe action unconstitutional, wrongful , null and void .Delivering his ruling, Justice Taiwo Taiwo, said that he quite understoodthat the applicant (Fayose) enjoys immunity and that the court canadjudicate on this matter as canvassed by the counsel to the plaintiff, but he pointed out that the relief he basically sought was a mandatoryorder of the court.“I quite agree that the applicant has immunity pursuant to provisions ofthe constitution, but it is glaring that the application he is requestingfor is a mandatory order to undo what had already been done and the courtcan’t abdicate its duty under this circumstance.“I am of the opinion that this mandatory order is better granted with theinterlocutory order being sought through an application pending before thecourt , because the applicant has filed all papers to this effect.“I hereby ordered the 1st and 2nd respondents to appear before thishonourable court on July 4, 2016 and show cause why the order should berefused.“This is not a refusal of the order, I have not refused it, but I only putit in abeyance which I said without prejudice to what will be the positionof the respondents .“But a leave is granted for the service of the defendants with theoriginating summons in their respective addresses as contained on theorder papers”, the Judge ruled.Describing the presiding judge as very at home with the law and a highlyexperience lawyer, Ozekhome said told newsmen that: “our motion was anexparte for the de-freezing and removal of restriction placed on citizenAyodele Fayose ‘s two accounts with the Zenith Bank Plc.“The bank claimed through a letter made available to our client that itacted on the instructions of the EFCC and we are here by way oforiginating summons to say that the EFCC has no powers, whether under theEFCC Act, money laundering Act, under the constitution or any other knownlaw to freeze the accounts of a sitting governor who enjoys immunity undersection 308 of the Constitution of Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999asaltered because that section makes it clear that for the time that personis in that office, the President, Vice-President, Governor andDeputy-Governor he enjoys absolute immunity from any civil or criminalprocedure and that no court process can issue against such person.“So, EFCC could not have obtained an order Exparte to freeze his account,if they did that, it is illegal, null and void. It could also not havefrozen his accounts without having an order Exparte, ” he said.Asked what would be the the legal team’s next step should the EFCC failsto honour the court’s order on Monday, July 4, Ozekhome said thegovernment agency cannot dare a Federal High Court’s order. In a related development, the same court today, vacated an Order ofExparte sought by the factional Ekiti State chapter of the Peoples’Democratic Party (PDP) allegedly loyal to Senator Buruji Kashamurestricting the executives of the party in Ekiti, loyal to governorFayose, from parading themselves as authentic Excos of the party.

Gudu Sokoto’s only LGA without secondary school gets one thanks to Gov Aminu Tambuwal

The only local government area in Sokoto  without a secondary school has just secured one, thanks to Governor Aminu Waziri Tambuwal of Sokoto State.Gudu LGA in Sokoto State has suffered themisfortune of having some of theworst statistics in education in the world. Apart from having the ignominyof not having a senior secondary school tocater for its estimated 120,000residents, a 2013 survey showed that out of 1890 students in JuniorSecondary Schools in the LGA, only one of them is a female. All that is about to change however, because at the weekend, Sokoto StateExecutive Council gave approval for the establishment of a model boardingsecondary school in Balle, the headquarters of the local government area.Announcing the Council’s decision in Sokoto, the state commissioner ofinformation, Abdulkadir Jeli Abubakar, said the sum of N1 billion has beenearmarked for the project, and already, 30% mobilisation fee has beenapproved for the contractor to begin construction work.It would be recalled that during the last Democracy Day celebration,Tambuwal had announced that a new boarding secondary school would beestablished in Balle.“Government is determined to establish a new Secondary School in Balle, aninitiative which is considered laudable by all stakeholders, in view ofthe poor state of education in Gudu Local Government. 13 states to produce rice for consumption:- Buhari

President Muhammadu Buhari on Monday said13 states have been identified to produce rice that will feed the nation in the next 18 months.Buhari spoke during the breaking of fast dinner with the business community.According to him, unless the economy is set right, Nigeria will continue to be in trouble.Despite the ongoing implementation of the flexible policy which has systematically devalued the nation’s currency, President Buhari insisted that he does not see any benefitin the devaluation of naira. He said: “How much benefit have we derived from naira devaluation in the past? I don’t like the returns I get from the CBN because that coupled with the demand that let us devalue the naira. In August 1985, the naira was N1.3 toa dollar. But now you need N300 or N350 to a dollar.“What do we derive from that?  And how much benefit can we derive from this ruthless devaluation of the naira? I’m not an economist neither a businessman, I fail to appreciate whatis the economic explanation.“What has happen to us now is that we have maneuvered ourselves into mono economy which led to the collapse we are seeing now.“A lot of responsibilities now fall on your shoulders now. You have a lot of investments and a lot of people to employ.”Giving a vote of thanks on behalf of the group, Chairman of Unilever, Kola Jamodu, pledged the support of the group to Buhari’s administration as it strives to take the Nigerian economy out of the woods.

According toPremium Times, Daukaka left his home in the early hours of Saturday June 25th to attend an early morning prayer at a mosque and never returned. One of his relative, Atiku Mustapha, says his disappearance is not unconnected with his new song ”Gyara kayanka” where he alleged that someelected politicians of the ruling APC were deceiving the electorate.‘’It is not surprising that he could be abducted because of his song because in his new song in which he compared the present and past elected members of the Adamawa State House of Assembly. The way and manner things are happening will not augur well for the state. They just want to intimidate those that are criticising the charade playing out in the state.” The leader of the Adamawa Concern Citizens, a pressure group in the state, Hussaini Bello, said “We totally condemn the abduction of this famous singer. We are investigating the matter and whoever that has hand in it must be exposed. In our society singers use their God-giving talentsto capture the mood of the society, the songs sometimes don’t go down well with those in power except if the singer praises them.”

Kwara residents lament the increasing theft of cooked food on fire

The hardship brought about by the current economic recession in Nigeria has given rise to aspate of insecurity. According to a report by The Guardian. In Kwara State, cooking a pot of soup is now an invitation to robbers, as cases of eagle-eyed hungry men absconding with cooked food still onthe fire is now a daily occurrence. The incident is widespread in areas without perimeter fencing and among women who cook or have opted to cook with coal pots. At each of such areas such as Tanke, Basin, Sango, Offa Garage, and Kilanko, the incident according to The Guardian investigations occurred over five times in just a week.According to Alhaja Hamidalat Olawale at Sango:"I was cooking around 5.00p.m. in readiness for the breaking of the fast for the day. It was beans and I decided to use coal pot at the open backyard. I had added all the food condiments and was waiting for the broth to dry up. But to my greatest surprise, I did not see the pot of the beans again."I was shocked discovering this. What amazed me was that the thief did not come for it before it was ready; he or she came when the food was ready and we were already salivating, meaning the person must have been closely monitoring me."Another victim, an undergraduate of the University of Ilorin, Anita Bazuaye, said it was her pot of soup that disappeared beside her window."It was painful because as a student, it was difficult for me to get money again for another soup. In fact, when I managed to start cooking again, I did not leave the place until I had securelypacked the pot inside my room."Reacting to the development, the Police spokesman, Ajayi Okasanmi (ASP), said no formal report to that effect had come to him or anyone within the state command, but warned that."It is a serious matter and we will not take it lightly with anyone caught in the act. The Penal Code frowns at theft and we will treat anyone in the act accordingly."A former chairman of Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) in the state, Emmanuel Ayeoribe, said the development could not be divorced from the non-payment of workers’ salaries."If nothing is urgently done to commence regular payment of salaries, very soon, people will start leaping over the fence to steal food, not just from unfenced quarters," he warned.Source: The Guardian

The Diary of A Broken Heart Episode 1

Just before Christmas we received a very pleasant surprise news that our relatives from Maiduguri are coming over to spend their entire Christmas and New Year holidays. I was thrilled, I have always liked going to Maiduguri to meet my mum’s relatives. But now they are coming over I and my entire family were very excited.

The anxiety grew up tenfold. We prepared the rooms and cleaned the house as if it's our in laws that are coming over. But soon they arrived and it was an enormous family reunion. My excitement became short-lived as they announced they were staying for only a week. But nonetheless they arrived safe and sound 5 of them. Hajja Zarah, hajiya Kalthume, Baa Kura, Ammi and her little sister Hajjah Fanna.   Ammi was only 17 then she schooled in Maiduguri, not very tall, dark, not too slim and Pretty. (In fact if truth be told, extremely pretty. What I call black beauty) and with very good shape too. She was everything a guy of this age is looking out for. She has little dents on her two front teeth.  Extremely shy (or so I thought) and enormously helpful. We got along very quickly more than the average relatives would. We clicked like a door lock. I hardly get complete raka'ah in the mosque again. She was ofcourse the reason behind so. Doing alwala (ablution), shes there gisting with me. She was too matured for her age. I was way way older than her but I had to give it to her, she was very very thoughtful. I simply liked her more and more every day. Mind you, liked her only. Not love her. Nothing like that just yet.

We played games together. We even rode on bicycle together, she loves running in me, being very playful with kids (dey call me baban yara), it was easy to catch up with her likes. So I wholly obliged.  We stayed late at night and chatted for long hours. Watching movies and playing video games sometimes. You won't believe it but she loved playing football games too. Something I welcomed and something that was hard for you to see in any girl these days.

My folks at home noticed our closeness. They started throwing taunts at me and her. Especially me, I ignored it. I comforted myself by saying she's just a kid and they know nothing was going to happen. I told myself that I don't even want to be her husband. I wasn't even thinking or imaging it. And then I pictured some other strange man standing next to her as her husband and then a sudden lion rose in my throat. For an instant I thought i had gone mad.   Fast forwarding......It was on  a Saturday afternoon on xmas day after my mum and Co came back from the market from the usual monthly shopping. My mum bought Ammi an expensive Bangle and a necklace to match (silver) as she gave it to her and she said these words to Ammi.  "Ga wannan mu dai munyi wa Sani kaamu" (guess who's sani)..?

The atmosphere around the sitting room changed instantly. It was a very tensed silence. I looked across the room Ammi's mum (Hajjah Zarah) was there. She was just as surprised as me. Ammi's little sister was there too. By the look on her face, she was struggling to understand what my mum had said. She was slowly digesting what she heard. I silently prayed and hoped she would never understand. My mum was wearing an unmistakable triumphant smile as the silence stretched far too long. It was so so uncomfortable. It seemed like we spent hours digesting what mum had said.  It was an uncomfortable experience for all of us. My mum seemed to be the only one enjoying herself immensely as though she had received a news that her Hajj's seat has been paid for by Federal government.

It was the silent giggle ensuring from Ammi's little sister that broke our reverie and long silence. Her brains had finally clicked. She had finally understood what my mum meant. Her young brains had interpreted what made her confused moments ago. I smiled along with her. Ammi's mum smiled at me too. But only one soul wasn't smiling at me guess who? Yeah it's.......Ammi.

To be continue insha Allah on Wednesday

Special thanks to Muhammad Sani

Dangote reveals he has lost over N50b to ‘flexible exchange’ policy

Africa's Richest man and President of Dangote Group, Aliko Dangote, over the weekend revealed that his company has lost over N50 billion to the flexible foreign exchange policy since the Federalgovernment introduced it last week Monday June20th.The apex bank had scrapped the dual exchange rate policy, creating a single window for the trade in Naira. The Nation reports that Dangote made the disclosure when he spoke during an inspection tour with Vice President Yemi Osinbajo and someMinisters had on the project sites of Dangote Fertiliser and Dangote Refinery in Lekki, Lagos.“We have been badly affected like any other company. This week (last week), the Central Bankremoved the peg that has held the naira at the official rate of 197 for the last 16 months, leadingto a 30 per cent devaluation as the currency traded freely on the interbank market. This devaluation alone, we have lost over 50 billion naira ($176 million). The gas, which is our main source of power, is priced in dollars. If there is 40per cent devaluation, your price will go up by 40 per cent. Every single aspect of the production will go up by that percentage,” he said.
