According to Premium Times, Ese Oruru, who was allegedly kidnapped from Bayelsa State to Kano, said she was not interested in reuniting with her family and denied reports that she was abducted from her home in Bayelsa State. In an exclusive audio recording obtained by the online publication today, the girl also said she eloped with her lover to Kano in order to convert to Islam.

Cases Of Violence Against Children Is High In Kaduna – Human Rights Commission

 The Kaduna State Zonal Coordinator of National Human Rights Commission (NHRC), Mr Chris Eneji, on Sunday said that reported cases of violence against children is very high in the state.
He noted that such cases are brought before the commission on a regular basis.
According to him, about two thirds of children in the state between ages 5 and 14 are subjected to physical punishment by their care givers on a regular basis, adding that only about one third of such cases are reported to the commission or relevant authorities.

Nigerian Army Inaugurates Combat Motorbike Battalion In The Fight Against Boko Haram

The Army has inducted a combat motorbike battalion at the Headquarters of 25 Task Force Brigade, Damboa, Borno State.
It also launched the second set of 100 wanted suspected Boko Haram terrorists.
The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt.-Gen. Tukur Yusufu Buratai, while inducting the unit stated that the essence of the battalion is to open and secure motorways from various towns to and fro Maiduguri and other parts of Yobe State.

Saraki acquires N330m official cars

Senate President Bukola Saraki has acquired official cars worth N330 million, Daily Trust on Sunday gathered.
Saraki acquired the cars despite reservations expressed by Nigerians including President Muhammadu Buhari and former President Olusegun Obasanjo.
Buhari had in his maiden media chat expressed reservation about the purchase of cars by the legislators. The lawmakers had after collecting car loans in August last year, insisted on buying cars for oversight functions.
Our correspondent recalled that Obasanjo, in January wrote a letter to Saraki and the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara, advising them to suspend the purchase of the cars in the face of the economic situation in the country.

The Nigerian Air Force has paraded a fake recruitment agent over an extortion scam that promised employment into the Nigeria Air Force and other security agencies.
Parading the suspect on Friday in Abuja, the spokesman of the Air Force Group Captain Ayodele Famuyiwa, said the suspect was arrested in a sting operation after swindling about N595, 000 from his victims.

Dasuki accuses Pres. Buhari of being behind his detention

Embattled former National Security Adviser, Sambo Dasuki, has accused President Buhari of being behind his continued detention despite two federal high courts granting him bail in December last year. According to Premium Times, Dasuki made the allegation through his counsel, Joseph Daudu, at the resumed hearing of his trial today February 26th.
Dasuki said while responding to a question during his media chat last year, pres. Buhari said that himself and Nnamdi Kanu, leader of IPOB, were still in detention because they could jump bail if they are released.

NDLEA seizes N61m worth of drugs at Abuja airport

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport (NAIA) has apprehended four suspected drug traffickers including a Birmingham based cleaner with 6.822kg of narcotics worth N61 million.
The seized drugs consist of 4.193kgs of heroin and 2.629kg of cocaine destined for Addis-Ababa, Ethiopia, Birmingham, United Kingdom, Rome and Mumbai, India, a statement by the agency's spokesman Ofoyeju Mitchell said.
NDLEA commander at Abuja airport, Hamisu Lawan said that those arrested were caught attempting to smuggle drugs out of the country.

At least, 7 persons killed in fresh Taraba crisis

About 10 people are feared killed in a fresh communal crisis in Ibbi town, headquarters of Ibbi local government area of Taraba state.
Reports from the area said the crisis started when one Ibrahim Uba a civil defense corps official was killed by unknown gun men leading to retaliatory attack on people in the area by hoodlums.

Refund N310m for 23 cars, EFCC tells Uche Secondus

Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Deputy National Chairman Uche Secondus has offered to return the 23 luxury cars he got from a business associate of the former Minister of Petroleum Resources, Mrs. Diezani Alison-Madueke.
But the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) asked Secondus to refund to the Federal Government N310 million, being the worth of the vehicles.
Secondus may however remain in detention for a while because the anti-graft agency is still probing his relationship with an oil baron.
There were indications yesterday that the screening of Secondus’ financial transactions might provide more clues beyond the 23 vehicles.
Secondus was quizzed for hours yesterday by EFCC operatives.

Yola blast caused by bombs in police store, says Police Commissioner

The Commissioner of Police in Adamawa, Mr Mohammed Gazali, said Thursday's blast at the Jimeta Police Station was caused by bombs recovered from Boko Haram insurgents.
Gazali told newsmen in Yola that the recovered bomb exploded from the store used by the Police Command to warehouse exhibits.
He said that most of those affected by the blast were policemen.

Sanusi suspends village head over alleged rape of girl, 14year old girl.

Emir of Kano, Alhaji Muhammadu Sanusi, has suspended Usman Musa Muhammad, the village head of Goron-Maje in Dambatta LGA of the state over alleged rape of a 14-year old girl.
Announcing the suspension yesterday, the Galadiman Kano, Alhaji Abbas Sanusi, said the village head was suspended to ensure proper investigation into the matter.
He added that the emirate council had set up a committee to investigate the matter and report back to the palace. He also said the committee comprises representatives of the palace and officials of the State Hisbah Board.
The Galadima warned other traditional title holders in the state against anything capable of tarnishing their integrity and the image of the emirate.
“The Kano Emirate Council will not condone any act of immorality by its representatives, hence, will not spare any traditional ruler found wanting in such acts,” he said.
“The village head slept with me on several occasions. He threatened to kill me if I told anyone about my relationship with him and that is why I kept quiet,” the girl told Hisbah officials.
The Commander-General of the Hibah Board, Sheikh Aminu Ibrahim Daurawa, said the board would invite the village head for questioning.

Senate Presents 2016 Budget Report Next Week

The Senate is expected to round off the collation of reports on the 2016 budget estimates of N6.08 trillion this week for due consideration next week.
According to the chairman, Senate Committee on Appropriations, Sen. Danjuma Goje ( APC-Gombe Central), that would be preparatory to the passage of the Appropriation Bill before the end of next month.
Goje who stated this while briefing the Senate on the progress recorded since the presidency presented the budget proposal at yesterday’s sitting, said that his committee had mandated the different sub-committees to make their submissions between yesterday and Tuesday next week.

Joint National Association of Persons with Disabilities (JONAPWD)Kaduna State Chapter has urged the state governor, Malam Nasir El-Rufai to expedite actions that will lead to the establishment of a commission that will take care of their affairs.
According to the group, the signing and passage of a bill that will lead to establishment of a commission for Disabilities Affairs as promised by Elrufai during his governorship campaign will help them greatly.

Buhari: Budget in N/Assembly not what I presented

President Muhammadu Buhari has disclosed that the unauthorised alterations of the 2016 national budget has completely changed the document from the one he presented to the National Assembly.


President Buhari disclosed this in Riyadh late Tuesday night while addressing the Nigerian Community in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

Buhari condemned the distortion of the budget proposals by what he called "entrenched interests".


The president stated that throughout the periods he had served the country in the past, he had never heard about budget padding.

Buhari Turns Down Invitation to Join Coalition of Islamic States Against Terror

President Muhammadu Buhari has tactically rejected the invitation by Saudi Arabia to join the coalition of Islamic States against terror.
Buhari, who is on a week-long visit to Saudi Arabia and Qatar told his host and ruler of Saudi Arabia, King Salman Bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, that rather than joining, Nigeria would support the coalition.

Senate orders cleanup of FCT within 21 days

THE Senate Committee on Federal Capital Territory has given the Area Councils 21 days to clean up parks, markets and the entire FCT or face sanctions.
The Chairman of the Committee, Senator Dino Melaye (APC Kogi West) gave this directive when the committee met with chairmen of the six area councils in the FCT.

600,000 children in Jigawa under-fed — UNICEF

No fewer than 600,000 out of 1.1 million children below the age of five in Jigawa state are malnourished according to statistics released yesterday by the United Nations International Children Fund (UNICEF).
The organization Chief Nutritionist in Nigeria, Mr. Arjan de-Wagt, made the disclosure when he led other partners on ‘Improving Nutrition in Northern Nigeria” on a courtesy visit to Gov. Muhammad Badaru in Dutse.

EFCC detains Abba Moro, two others

The EFCC today reportedly detained former Minister of Interior, Abba Moro, a former Permanent Secretary and a director over the N650million immigration recruitment scandal that led to the death of some job applicants in March 2014.‎ The three suspects were invited by the EFCC ahead of their arraignment in court on Tuesday.
About 6.5million Nigerian youths applied for 5,000 immigration jobs, but the conduct of the test in March 2014 led to the death of several applicants during a stampede in Abuja, Port Harcourt, Minna. Each applicant paid a non-refundable application fee of N1, 000.

Returning loot may not save suspects from prosecution —Magu

Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Mr. Ibrahim Magu, has said the commission could still prosecute suspects, even after they have returned stolen money to the treasury.

Magu had said in recent interviews that the EFCC had recovered billions of naira, especially from its ongoing investigations into the $2.1 billion arms money allegedly diverted by former NSA, Mr. Sambo Dasuki.

Saraki Using Budget Padding Crisis To Blackmail PMB – Marafa

PDP: Resign Now – Jutta, Nwabara, Shagari, Others Tell Sheriff

Some aggrieved chieftains of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) led by former governor of old Gongola State, Wilberforce Juta, has asked the new PDP national chairman, Ali Modu Sheriff to resign and save the party further embarrassment.
The aggrieved party members under the aegis of PDP Rescue Group, further described the emergence of Sheriff as an imposition, stressing that he was not nominated by any state from the North-east.

A retired colonel reputed for constant criticism of the Nigerian government's handling of the Boko Haram insurgency has reportedly been arrested and kept incommunicado by the secret police.
Activists and family friends told Anadolu Agency that retired army colonel Husseini Monguno was arrested on Feb. 13 shortly after he granted a media interview reviewing Nigeria's counterinsurgency strategies in the country's northeast.

"They have since kept him incommunicado. Family members and his lawyer have had no access to him, while members of his immediate family are being threatened to remain silent," Fulan Nasrullah, a security expert and family friend to Monguno, told Anadolu Agency on Saturday.

Malnutrition kills 450 kids in Borno’s IDP camps

About 450 children  died of malnutrition in 28 Internally Displaced Persons’ camps in the state in Borno state last year,  the state Emergency Management Agency said on Sunday
The Executive Director of the Board, Dr Sule Mele said the victims were aged between one and five years.
He said more than 209,577 children have been screened for various illnesses, including malnutrition, malaria, diarrhoea and vomiting.
According to him, about 6,444 severe cases of malnutrition were  recorded in the camps, 25,511 have mild to moderate symptoms, while 177,622 among them were not malnourished.

Kaduna Anti-kidnapping Squad rescues 4 abducted girls

 

The Kaduna State Government’s Joint Special Anti-kidnapping Squad of military and police has rescued four  girls abducted by a gang of kidnapers.

Samuel Aruwan, Senior Special Assistant to Governor Nasir El-Rufai on Media and Publicity, who disclosed this to newsmen today said the girls were rescued after a raid by the squad in Kateri area of Kachia local government area of the state.

INEC declared David Mark winner of Benue South Senotorial re-run

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has declared David Mark winner of the Benue South Senatorial re-run. The former Senate President garnered a total of 84,192 votes, to beat his main contender, Daniel Onjeh of the All Progressives Congress (APC) with 71,621 votes.

 

The returning Officer of the electoral body, Mr Ishaq Eneji, while declaring the result, said that Senator Mark met all the requirements during the conduct of the poll, having majority of the total vote cast.

Responding to the victory and call for supplementary election in the cancelled polling units, Senator Mark said that his election reflected the will of the people.

Young boy's throat cut by his friends at an IDP camp in Borno

According to Dan-Borno who shared these photos on twitter, this little boy was lured to a corner by some of his friends, who attacked him with a sharp object. One of them managed to cut his throat but thankfully it wasn't fatal. The quick intervention of an elderly person saved the young boy's life.

 

Masari: States Facing Collapse over Finances

Masari’s remarks confirmed THISDAY report of last Sunday that states had been hit by another cash crunch and were seeking another bailout, six months after the Federal Government bailed out 19 of the 27 states that were enmeshed in financial crisis.
In that report, THISDAY had revealed that most of the states that benefitted from the N400 billion intervention fund, in form of loans, offered by the Federal Government through the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), were now approaching the presidency and the CBN for another bailout.
In an interview with THISDAY at the weekend, Masari painted a picture of the perilous state of the finances of state governments.

NACCIMA seeks review of N50 stamp duty levy

The Nigerian Association of Chambers of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture (NACCIMA), has called on the Federal Government to review the recently introduced N50 stamp duty.
The association said the introduction of charges on all banking transfers has become a cause for concern among private sector operators, as it has added to their overhead cost in spite of different challenges they faced.
NACCIMA President, Chief Bassey E.O. Edem, argued that though the charge is constitutional and understandable in this period that government is making efforts to shore up its revenue, government should mitigate the effects of the charge by increasing its domestic spending.

Kaduna State University ICT gutted by fire

A section of the Information and Communication Technology (ICT) center of the Kaduna State University (KASU), Kaduna has erupted in flames, while some students were making use of the facility.

The fire, which started about 11:45 am lasted for about one hour forty-five minutes, destroying computers, server, props and other internet equipment worth millions of Naira. However, no casualty was recorded from the incident.
