I am not desperate for Nigerian Presidency, says Lamido

Former Governor of Jigawa State, Alhaji Sule Lamido on Monday, said that he was not desperate for the position of Nigeria’s president in the 2019 general elections.

Lamido said this   in Abakaliki when he led his campaign team on a courtesy visit to Gov. David Umahi.

The former governor said he would accept the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) decision on its torchbearer  for the election.

Going down memory lane, he disclosed that the first wall and gate was Kofar Kansakali. “It was the first wall and gate which was built in 1112 AD. Its foundation was laid by Sarkin Kano Giji Masu. “It was named after the first son of the Kano ruler (after whom the city was named) a blacksmith.Today, the gate is located at Tudun Yola quarters in Ungogo Local Government Area of the state.”

Fire kills 83-year-old woman, 40 cows destroyed in Jigawa

An 83-year-old woman, Malama Sa’adatu Isyaku, was on Saturday  killed by fire in Kwajala village of Dutse Local Government Area of Jigawa.
DSP Abdu Jinjiri, the spokesman for the Police Command in Jigawa, confirmed the incident to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Dutse.

Jinjiri said the fire, which started at about 4:50 a.m, was suspected to have been caused by a burning fire wood kept by the deceased to keep her room warm.

Speaker Dogara Urges President Buhari To Assent To Petroleum Industry Governance Bill

* Says passage of PIGB landmark achievement

Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Yakubu Dogara, has urged President Muhammadu Buhari to, as a matter of urgency, sign into law the Petroleum Industry Governance Bills (PIGB) passed into law by the National Assembly.

This follows the passage of the legislation by the House of Representatives on Wednesday, the Senate had last Year passed a similar bull which will now be harmonised with thebHosue version.

Hon. Dogara said the new legislation will be transmitted to the President as soon as it is harmonised and explained that the parliament had to move on and pass it's own version of the Bill following failure of the Executive to present a draft bill to the National Assembly.

Teachers Sack: Kaduna NUT calls off strike, backs El-Rufai’s education reform

The Nigeria Union of Teachers, NUT, has called off its indefinite strike in Kaduna State.
Public primary and secondary school teachers in the state embarked on the strike 10 days ago over the sack of over 21,000 of primary school teachers the state government said failed a competency test.
Audi Anna, the NUT Chairman in Kaduna, on Thursday announced the decision to bring an end to the strike after an emergency meeting of the State Wing Executive Council, SWEC of the union.
The union said it was calling off the strike because Governor Nasir El-Rufai had pledged to give the sacked teachers a second chance.

• Plot to Remove Saraki Remains Strong, Misau Warns

Senator Isa Hamman Misau (Bauchi, APC) has warned that the plot to remove Senate President Bukola Saraki from office has remained strong over fears that he may defect from the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), thus creating problems for the party.

Speaking at the Senate plenary Wednesday, Misau said the plot gained traction during the Christmas recess of the National Assembly and was being spearheaded by a minister.
