Navy recovers 267 cows, 51 sheep, arrests five bandits in Kaduna

Troops of the Nigerian Navy School of Armament Technology, Kachia, in Kacjia Local Government Area of Kaduna State have arrested five bandits who are said to be rustlers too.

The formation paraded the suspects on Tuesday saying that 267 cows and 51 sheep were recovered from the bandits on Saturday, October 26.

The Federal Government’s decision to shut the nation’s land borders against neigbouring countries will remain, despite any short-term losses, until they ratify Nigeria’s proposed anti-smuggling policy, according to Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Governor Godwin Emefiele.

Emefiele, who held a closed-door meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, yesterday, noted that since the closure, Nigerian rice and poultry farmers had been benefitting from the development.

Dapchi School attack getting every attention it deserves, says Buhari

President Muhammadu Buhari has assured the families of students reportedly abducted from the Government Girls Technical College, Dapchi in Yobe State that no effort would be spared in bringing succour to them.

“When I received the devastating news of the attack on the school and the fact that the local authorities could not account for all the students, I immediately dispatched a high-level delegation on a fact-finding visit to the town.

The Boko Haram attack on Government Girls Science and Technical College, Dapchi, may have created a setback for the efforts to get girls to remain in schools in Yobe State.

One of the pupils, Faiza Mohammed, said yesterday that she would not return to school except Chief of Army Staff Lt.-Gen. Yusuf Tukur Buratai is the gateman.

The attack on the school has also caused some level of panic across the northern part of Yobe State which witnessed fewer attacks of the insurgents in the last seven years.

Yobe girls school attack: 94 students missing

Ninety four students are still missing following attack by suspected Boko haram members on Government Giris Secondary School Dapchi, in Yobe state on Monday.

A source in the school told Daily Trust that the number of missing students was realized after an afternoon roll call on the students.

"After the roll call, 610 out the total number of 704 students have returned. We are still searching for the remaining 94 students", he said.

Boko Haram Attack Dapchi In Yobe

Yobe Commissioner of Police, AbdulMaliki Sumonu, on Monday confirmed an attack by suspected Boko Haram insurgents on Dapchi, headquarters of Bursari local government area.

Sumonu confirmed the attack in an interview with News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).

He said “at about 5.30 p.m yesterday, Monday, the suspected insurgents attacked Dapchi, headquarters of Bursari local government area.

Nigeria frees 475 Boko Haram suspects for lack of evidence

Nigeria has freed another 475 Boko Haram suspects following a series of mass trials in which most cases were dropped for lack of evidence, the justice ministry said Sunday.

Over the course of the week, hundreds of suspected Boko Haram extremists have appeared before a court at the Kainji military base in central Niger state.

The release order was issued on Friday, with the 475 suspects to be returned to their home states for “proper rehabilitation” before being sent back to their families, ministry spokesman Salihu Othman Isah said.

Army rescue 46 captives, destroy fortified Boko Haram camp in Sambisa

The Nigerian Army on Tuesday said its troops had rescued 46 captives and destroyed a highly fortified Boko Haram insurgents’ camp deep inside Sambisa forest as part of its ongoing “clearance operation” .

Col. Onyeama Nwachukwu, the Deputy Director, Army Public Relations, “Operation Lafiya Dole”,  disclosed this in a statement issued in Maiduguri.

Police Repel Suicide Attack on Borno

Police have repelled a suicide attack on its location in troubled Borno State, the Police Commissioner in the state, Damien Chukwu ,said yesterday in Maiduguri.

Addressing a press conference, Chukwu said two female suicide bombers who targeted the police facilities in Dikwa were killed by eagle eye police officers on Sunday night.

He said the suicide bombers were sighted by personnel on duty, approaching the outpost from about 100 meters.

He explained that they were asked to halt their movement but after they did not heed the warning, they were gunned down.

Boko Haram: Military Expresses Dismay Over Gov. Shettima’s Rating Of Performance

The Minister of Defence, Mansur Dan-Ali, and top senior security officers have expressed dismay over the position of Governor Kashim Shettima that Generals from the Southern parts of the country are responsible for the return of peace to Borno State.
Shettima said this during a town hall meeting of military and security agencies in Maiduguri, the Borno State capital.
He said he was disappointed to observe that previous commanders, who were from the southern states of Nigeria, did much better than the last occupants of the office from the North.

Military Rescues 84, Recovers Weapons from Boko Haram Fighters

At least 84 people have been rescued and heavy military weapons recovered from Boko Haram fighters by Nigerian army.

The Army said on Saturday that the breakthrough was recorded during an operation in Borno State.

A total of 84 persons held hostage by the insurgents at Camp Zairo were rescued by the troops and have been handed over to the Borno State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA).

Boko Haram destroyed 1,400 schools in Borno – UNICEF

The UN Children’s Fund ( UNICEF ) said 1,400 schools have been damaged or destroyed in Borno as a result of years of Boko Haram insurgency in the state.

UNICEF stated this in its 2018 Humanitarian Response Plan for Northeast – Adamawa, Borno and Yobe – adding, less than 400 health facilities remained functional across the state.

Borno Govt. bans vehicular movement on 3 highways

The Borno Government has banned vehicular movement on three major roads in the state due to the ongoing military clearance operation against the Boko Haram insurgents.

Dr Bukar Bulama, the Commissioner of Home Affairs, Information and Culture Affairs, made the announcement on Monday in a statement issued in Maiduguri.

Bulama disclosed that the government had prohibited vehicular movement on the roads to be observed between Jan. 30 and Feb. 4.

Muna Garage Suicide Blasts Kill 10 in Borno

Ten people were killed and dozens injured on Wednesday in a double suicide-bomb attack in the northeast Nigerian city of Maiduguri, a civilian militia leader and a resident told AFP.

The blasts happened in the Muna Garage area of the Borno state capital, in a market used mainly by internally displaced people (IDPs) from a nearby camp.

“I can confirm that 10 people have died in the attack,” said Ibrahim Liman, of the Civilian Joint Taskforce (CJTF), which assists the military with security against Boko Haram.

NAF destroys Boko Haram facilities, kills insurgents

The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) said on Wednesday it used remotely piloted aircraft to destroy emerging Boko Haram vehicle workshop in the Sambisa general area.

It added that Boko Haram members who were within the vicinity of the target area were killed in the operation as well.

Soldiers kill 3 Boko Haram insurgents, recover 200 cattle

The Nigerian Army on Monday said its troops killed three Boko Haram insurgents and recovered 200 cattle in Borno.

Brig.-Gen. Sani Kukasheka, the Director of Army Public Relations, announced this in a statement in Maiduguri.
