Niger state commissioner for education Hajiya Fatima Madugu has called for improved cooperation between the Ministries of education and sports with a view to boosting sports in the country. She made the submission at the unveiling of Basketball court constructed and donated to a girl’s school in the state.
The basketball court was donated by Jonathan kolo, chairman of Time out4 Africa. The project built for government girls college along old airport road minna is to encourage female players to embrace the game while also furthering their education.
Members of the special project unit of the Niger state government who joined the commissioner of Education in the state to receive the court appreciated the kind gesture of the Timeout 4 Africa for boosting basketball in the school.
Hajiya Fatima Madugu recalled that the same organisation had last year build same basketball court in a male dominated school in the state and said this one for the girls would be fully utilized and maintained
“Henceforth all basketball competition for secondary schools girls in Niger state will now take place in this court because this is the only way government feel we can continue to encourage the girls to play basketball and become future champions,” she said adding the more cooperation we have between both ministries the better for sports in the country.
The chairman Timeout 4 Africa who was former basketball player based in the USA said he was only giving back to the society what he has also gained from the society.
“I started my basketball career in Minna and I feel this is the time to give back by assisting the game to grow through the provision of facilities, we will not relent in this task because we want to make Niger state famous again among basketball playing states in Nigeria”.
