About 10 people are feared killed in a fresh communal crisis in Ibbi town, headquarters of Ibbi local government area of Taraba state.
Reports from the area said the crisis started when one Ibrahim Uba a civil defense corps official was killed by unknown gun men leading to retaliatory attack on people in the area by hoodlums.
Daily Trust gathered that several residential and commercial buildings were set ablaze while a curfew has been imposed by the state government.
The spokesman of Taraba police command DSP Joseph Kwaji confirmed the incident. He said police and the Army have been deployed to the area to restore peace to the town.
DSP Kwaji told Daily Trust that about seven persons were killed while residential buildings were burnt.
He also said a family of six was murdered when unknown gunmen attacked the fishermen camp at Sarkin Noma village in Dampar district of Ibbi local government.
Kwaji gave the names of those killed as Dauda Jibir who was the head of the family, Mardiya Dauda, Uzairu Dauda, Hamisu Dauda, Hadiza Dauda and Haruna Dauda.
DSP Kwaji furthered disclosed that five other persons were injured and were admitted at government hospital in Dampar town for treatment but no arrest had been made.
Both Ibbi and Wukari towns located few kilometers apart had recorded more than 10 crises in which hundreds of persons were killed in the last few years.
