The All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Peoples
Democratic Party (PDP) in Kaduna State are in a war of words over the
performance of the present APC-led administration in the state.
The acting State Secretary of the APC, Yahaya Baba, on Wednesday,
said that the current government was on the right track in developing
the state while his PDP counterpart, Kabiru Balla, maintained that the
administration was a failure, claiming that residents in the state were
already disappointed with its policies and performance.
The PDP is also upbeat of emerging victorious at the forthcoming
fresh election of Lere West State Constituency due to what it described
as the dwindling popularity of the APC.
The Lere West Constituency election was won by the APC candidate, Kabir Mohammed in the 2015 election, but his election was nullified by the Tribunal on the ground that he was not qualified to stand for the election.
The Tribunal, however, ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to conduct a fresh election within 90 days.
Although, about five political parties would take part in the election on Saturday, February 20, political analysts said that the contest would be a direct fight between PDP and APC.
Addressing representatives of political parties and other relevant stakeholders during a meeting at the state INEC headquarters, the Resident Electoral Commissioner, Mr Abdullahi Kaugama said that the Commission had trained the staff and ad-hoc staff that would conduct the election on the use of card readers.
He assured the parties and their candidates of a level playing ground.
Mr Kaugama, however, appealed to the political parties to conduct themselves in an orderly manner during and after the election.
While commending INEC for conveying the meeting, urged the Commission to conduct a free and fair election.
As the blame game continued among the rival political parties, the INEC said that its priority was to ensure a smooth of free and fair election on Saturday.
