National leaders of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), including the Deputy President Alhaji Mukhtar Gidado, Vice President Northeast Hajia Aisha Ibrahim and chairmen of NUJ State Councils in the Northeast zone have commended H.E Gov. Ibrahim Gaidam for his 'remarkable effort' in turning around Yobe's healthcare sector.
The NUJ leadership is in Yobe State to conduct and supervise election into the state council of the Union.
Union leaders spared time to visit the State Specialist Hospital, new Yobe University Teaching Hospital (YSUTH), the College of Medical Sciences under construction and the soon-to-be completed 77-km Damaturu-Buniyadi-Magdza road.
The Commissioner of Health Dr. Muhammad Bello Kawuwa conducted the visiting NUJ leaders and journalists round the healthcare facilities and gave a run-down of activities in the sector.
He said so much progress has been made as a result of the tremendous investments that H.E Gov. Ibrahim Gaidam continues to make in the sector.
The NUJ Deputy President Mukhtar Gidado praised Gov. Gaidam for his leadership and his efforts in transforming the state.
"I want to commend the Government of Yobe state for injecting a new lease of life into the hitherto collapsed infrastructural facilities in the state, particularly the rejuvenation of health facilities. I commend the Governor for keeping true to the yearnings and aspiration of Yobe people. I also want to appeal to the people of the state to support the gigantic efforts of the administration by giving the governor all the necessary support", Alhaji Gidado said.
On her part, the NUJ Vice President for Northeast Hajia Aisha said what she saw at YSUTH were comparable to the equipment and services she'd seen first hand at one of the world's top hospitals, in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.
Both Bauchi and Gombe States' chairmen of the NUJ, Ibrahim Mallam Goje and Alhassan Yahaya spoke in similar vein. Yahaya said he had been to 14 states across the north but has not seen anything close to what he saw in Yobe in terms of healthcare. "As a journalist and health correspondent, I have been to so many states in the northern part of this country but what I have seen in Yobe state in terms of health structures and equipment are the best. I congratulate the entire people of Yobe state", the Gombe NUJ chairman said.
The NUJ leaders called on the state government to keep the bar high and continue to set example for others in the region. They also called for a strengthening of the culture of maintenance to ensure that the dividends of the investments made by the government in healthcare and other sectors are felt for many years to come.
