NUJ Leaders Praise Gaidam for Yobe's Progress in Healthcare

National leaders of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), including the Deputy President Alhaji Mukhtar Gidado, Vice President Northeast Hajia Aisha Ibrahim and chairmen of NUJ State Councils in the Northeast zone have commended H.E Gov. Ibrahim Gaidam for his 'remarkable effort' in turning around Yobe's healthcare sector.

The NUJ leadership is in Yobe State to conduct and supervise election into the state council of the Union.

Union leaders spared time to visit the State Specialist Hospital, new Yobe University Teaching Hospital (YSUTH), the College of Medical Sciences under construction and the soon-to-be completed 77-km Damaturu-Buniyadi-Magdza road.

The Commissioner of Health Dr. Muhammad Bello Kawuwa conducted the visiting NUJ leaders and journalists round the healthcare facilities and gave a run-down of activities in the sector.

He said so much progress has been made as a result of the tremendous investments that H.E Gov. Ibrahim Gaidam continues to make in the sector.

The NUJ Deputy President Mukhtar Gidado praised Gov. Gaidam for his leadership and his efforts in transforming the state.

"I want to commend the Government of Yobe state for injecting a new lease of life into the hitherto collapsed infrastructural facilities in the state, particularly the rejuvenation of health facilities. I commend the Governor for keeping true to the yearnings and aspiration of Yobe people. I also want to appeal to the people of the state to support the gigantic efforts of the administration by giving the governor all the necessary support", Alhaji Gidado said.

On her part, the NUJ Vice President for Northeast Hajia Aisha said what she saw at YSUTH were comparable to the equipment and services she'd seen first hand at one of the world's top hospitals, in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.

Both Bauchi and Gombe States' chairmen of the NUJ, Ibrahim Mallam Goje and Alhassan Yahaya spoke in similar vein. Yahaya said he had been to 14 states across the north but has not seen anything close to what he saw in Yobe in terms of healthcare. "As a journalist and health correspondent, I have been to so many states in the northern part of this country but what I have seen in Yobe state in terms of health structures and equipment are the best. I congratulate the entire people of Yobe state", the Gombe NUJ chairman said.

The NUJ leaders called on the state government to keep the bar high and continue to set example for others in the region. They also called for a strengthening of the culture of maintenance to ensure that the dividends of the investments made by the government in healthcare and other sectors are felt for many years to come.

"Sukuk Bond" is a purely business thing which is good for us any day that is based on Quran and Bible

An economist and lecturer at Pan Atlantic University, Lagos, Dr. Austin Nweze, has said the controversy over the introduction of Sukuk Islamic bond was created by mutual suspicion among religious adherents in the country.
He said other than that, Sukuk is purely a business financial system adopted globally as a component of the Islamic financial system anchored on the principle of non-interest.
Nweze in a chat with our correspondent at PAU at the weekend said Singapore, United Kingdom and other non-Islamic states adopted the system based on its merit and not on any religious consideration.

Mixed reactions trail FG’s hydrocarbon search in Sokoto basin

The country may be on the verge of another waste of resources in the face of economic hardship and dwindling revenue as it begins another round of search for hydrocarbon in Sokoto basin.
For about 33 years, the Federal Government, through the Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) spent about $340 million and an additional N27 billion, in seismic expedition in the Lake Chad Basin without finding a drop of oil
But stakeholders in the oil and gas sector have warned the Muhammadu Buhari administration that unless it change its approach and strategy in the latest commitment for hydrocarbon search in the Sokoto basin, more resources would go down the drain without achieving the intended result.
NNPC had last week said  it has started a process that would lead to the exploration of oil and gas in the Sokoto Inland Sedimentary Basin.
