The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arrested a close associate and supporter of President Muhammadu Buhari, Lawal Jafaru Isa.
EFCC spokesman Wilson Uwujaren confirmed the arrest of the ruling All Progress Congress Chieftain in a sting operation in Abuja on Wednesday night.
Uwujaren did not provide any details on why the one time military governor of Kaduna state was arrested.
Daily Trust gathered that Jafaru Isa was picked up by EFCC agents to explain his involvement in the investigation and prosecution of suspects of the arms procurement scam in the Office of the National Security Adviser (NSA).
According to sources, Isa is alleged to have received over N100 million from the former National Security Adviser (NSA) Sambo Dasuki who is being prosecuted by the EFCC over financial crimes.
Isa is currently being interrogated at the Abuja head office of the EFCC to provide explanations of his involvement in the arms deal.
