Judge Berates EFCC For Delaying Proceedings On Nyako’s Case

Justice Evoh Chukwu of the Federal High Court Abuja yesterday accused the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) of delaying judgment on former Governor Murtala Nyako who is standing trial before the court on corruption charges.
Justice Chukwu who deferred his conference meeting to witness the cross-examination of defence’s witness, when EFCC counsel Adebisi Adeniyi tendered fresh voluminous document as evidence against Nyako.
But Counsel to Nyako, Yakubu Maikyau (SAN) said they needed to study the document because it was voluminous before going on with the cross-examination which justice Chukwu sustained.
Responding Chukwu, condemned the act and said the document should have been served to Nyako’s counsel Maikyau long before now, adding that the fresh document amounts to delay of judgment.
After collaborating with both counsels, 22 April and 6th of May were fixed as new date for cross examinations of witness.
