The state government has also reiterated that it is not interested in inflicting hardship on the workers and pensioners, saying that the purpose of the staff verification exercise was aimed at ensuring probity and optimal performance in the system.
This was disclosed by the State Auditor-General, Alhaji Yusuf Okala who also doubles as the Chairman of the committee while briefing journalists on the update information emanating from the exercise on Wednesday in Lokoja.
The State Auditor-General revealed that 43, 929 staff of the state and local government who were cleared during the staff verification exercise have received their salaries up to August.
He further pointed out that a total of 11, 174 staff of Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) have been paid up to August while 13, 856 staff of the 21 local government areas of the state also received their pay up to September, 2016.
He added that teachers of Local Government Education Authority totalling 12, 277 and 6,603 pensioners of both state and local government have also received their pay up to September.
According to him “The present administration inherited four months unpaid salaries, but today it has been depleted to two months as 56 MDAs had been paid up to August while the 21 local government areas received salaries up to September”
The Auditor General said that governor Yahaya Bello had directed that those recently cleared should be paid their accumulated salary arrears within two weeks and hinted that by December 20th , 2016 all issues of salary payment would be completed.
He however expressed optimism that by the year 2017 , the delay in salary payment will be an issue of the past as the authentic work force of the state would have been ascertained.
He called on the civil servants and pensioners to be patient with government as all the reforms embarked upon by the present administration is for the betterment of the state, saying it was not aimed to witch hunt anybody.
