Governor Umar Ganduje to sign N500bn deal on modern market

Kano State will sign a deal with a Dubai-based group to construct an ultra-modern market in Kano at the sum of N500 billion to facilitate decent business environment, Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje said yesterday.

Ganduje disclosed this yesterday during a visit by Vice President Yemi Osinbajo for a One day Grass Roots Town Hall Meeting. The governor said the decision was considered following review of business environment in the state where many traders are forced to display their wares on the streets due to lack of sufficient shops and indoor markets.

“Your Excellency because our markets are congested we have concluded arrangement through the Public Private Partnership to develop Kanawa Economic City. This city according to the estimate would cost over N500b. And we succeeded in getting a business partner in Dubai with whom we shall sign an agreement this week and by January to February, construction would start of an ultra-modern market in Kano state. We’ve already paid compensation for the land,” hesaid.

He also said that the state government is restructuring its existing markets to enhance their capacity and prevent fire outbreaks, adding “We are spending over N500 to restructure Kwari market. ” Vice President Osinbajo said that the only way Nigeria can get out of its current economic recession is by banning imports and pursuing policies that would strengthen the capacity of farmers and manufacturers in the country.
