The committee set up by the Sokoto State government to look into the possibility of selling government quarters to deserving occupants submitted its report to Governor Aminu Waziri Tambuwal at the Government House.
The committee, led by the state Commissioner of Lands and Housing, Alhaji Bello Muhammed Guiwa, made far reaching recommendations.

Wednesday, August 30th approval by the Federal Executive Council, FEC for the award of the contract for the engineering, procurement and construction of the 3050 MW Mambila Hydro Electric Power Project reflects President Muhammadu Buhari’s strong commitment to the development of infrastructure in the country.
After more than 40 years on the drawing boards, the FEC approval for the award of the contact to a consortium of three Chinese Companies, Messrs CGCC-SINOHYDRO-CGOCC Joint Venture represents a milestone in the journey for the realization of the country’s long-standing dream.
The landmark infrastructure project will cost the country the sum of US5,792,497,062.00 inclusive of taxes, environment utilization, works, as well as project land acquisition and compensation to about 100,000 people who will be resettled.

Flood: Benue Govt. opens 2 camps for IDPs


Benue Government on Wednesday announced the official opening of two camps for Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in the state.
Gov. Samuel Ortom made the announcement after inspecting flooded areas within Makurdi and its environs.
Ortom said the empty International Market and the Presidential Building at Agan Toll Gate would become camps for IDPs, pending when water level would subside.
He explained that his administration would do everything possible to provide minimum comfort to all displaced persons while in camps.

Old Women traders in Borno receives Sallah packages from Governor Shettima


In keeping with his passionate support for the weak, Governor Kashim Shettima has extended his sallah gesture to 21 old women‎ known for selling mangoes around the College of Nursing off Damboa road.
The Governor who is currently observing this year's Hajj as Borno's Ameerul Hajj directed the Chief of Staff, Government House, Modu Alhaji Musa to personally distribute rams to each of the old women. Governor Shettima has always had admiration for the old women because of their enterprising nature.

ASUU Strike Updates: Good News as Buhari appoints Osinbajo as “Chief Negotiator’’


The Federal Executive Council (FEC) has assigned Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo to henceforth chair the concluding part of the ongoing negotiation between the Federal Government and the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU).
ASUU, an umbrella association of lecturers in the nation’s universities, is demanding the full implementation of the 2009 agreements reached with the federal government bordering on improvement in welfare and payment of backlog of salaries and entitlements, among other issues.
The Minister of Labour and Employment, Dr Chris Ngige, confirmed this development while fielding questions from State House correspondents after the meeting of the FEC in Abuja on Wednesday.
Ngige stated that this was part of the council’s resolutions at the meeting which was presided over by President Muhammadu Buhari, his first meeting with all the members of the cabinet, since his return from medical vacation on Aug. 19.

The Police Service Commission has invited the Chairman Senate Committee on Navy, Senator Isah Misau, to appear before its Special Panel.
The Panel is investigating allegations surrounding the now rested recommendations on Special promotions in the Nigeria Police Force.
The Senator is expected to appear before the panel on 6th September, 2017 at 11.00am with the original copy of his letter of retirement for authentication.

Kebbi Assembly passes LG Establishment Amendment Bill into law

​The Kebbi  State House of Assembly has passed the Local Government Councils Establishment Amendment Bill and other bills  connected there in into law.

Presenting the bill on the floor of the House, on Wednesday, Deputy House Leader, Hon. Ibrahim Abubakar Bokulo, cited Section 2 of the Principal Law No. IV of 2008 on the need to be amended and urged his colleagues to support the motion for amendments of the bill.

Daily Sun gathered that the bill, if signed into law, would empower the local councils to deduct four percentage from federal allocation to develop four emirates within their domains.

During the House session, a motion was moved by the Deputy Speaker, Muhammad Buhari Aliero, calling on the House members to dissolve into the committee of session to consider the bill. The motion was seconded by Hon. Abdul-Wasi’u Yanusa Andarai.

After resumption into plenary, the bill was read for the third time and passed into law. The House, after their deliberations,  then adjourned for recess and to reconvene three weeks after the Eid-el-Kabir festival.

Speaking to journalists shortly after the day’s plenary , the Speaker , Honourable Ismaila Abdulmumini Kamba stated that the amendment of the local government Councils Establishment bill become necessary in order to make it clear on the four percent being deducted for Emirate councils in the state, so as to make the deduction of the Emirate councils from the source to accommodate them.

The Speaker called on the Kebbi state government to assent to the bill to allow the deduction of four percent from the source, saying Emirate councils now have  more funds from their allocation.

Senator Kanti-Bello represented Katsina Central Senatorial District (Daura zone) from 2003-2011 and was a one time Senate Chief Whip. President Buhari in a statement signed by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina, also extended his condolences to the government and people of Katsina State on the demise of the former senator. 

CBN, Sterling Bank support 22,000 farmers in Kebbi with agriculture loan


No fewer than 22,000 farmers in Kebbi State are to benefit from the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN)’s anchor borrowers programme aimed at increasing the cultivation of rice in Nigeria.
The loan anchored under Nigeria incentive-base risk sharing system for agriculture lending (NIRSAL) will be disbursed to beneficiaries by Sterling Bank Plc.
Speaking during an interactive session with Nirsal officials in the state, the bank’s head of new business sales, Adewale Adebowale said each beneficiary will get a N250,000 loan.
He said the loan would cover the cost of preparation and supplies of farm inputs needed for rice cultivation within their localities.

FG agreed to connect these 3 key agriculture states with rail lines


The Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi on Tuesday announced the federal government plans to construct rail lines that will link Kebbi, Zamfara and Sokoto states.
Amaechi who announced this during his courtesy visit to the Sokoto state Governor, Aminu Tambuwal, at the state’s in government house said this was in the bid to boost economic activities through effective transportation network
Amaechi said the proposal was being worked on and that it will be taken forward for approval once completed it.

Two Sokoto Hajj pilgrims return USD900, 290 Saudi Riyals lost by fellow pilgrim in hotel


Two Pilgrims from Sokoto State have returned 900 US Dollars, N7,450 and 290 Saudi Riyals lost by a fellow pilgrim in Saudi Arabia.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that this was the second time pilgrims from the state returned money which they found, to the state Pilgrims officials.
A pilgrim from the state, Alhaji Nuradeen Imam, who was confirmed to be the owner, had since collected the money.

University teachers have presented six new conditions for calling off their two-week old strike.

Gov. Ortom Visits Areas Affected By Flood In Makurdi

Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom, earlier today visited areas affected by flood in Makurdi where many people have been rendered homeless. He sympathized with those affected by the flood and described the situation as sad and unfortunate.

The Governor called on those living in flood prone areas across the state to relocate.

He also directed the State Emergency Management Agency, SEMA, to liaise with the National Emergency Management Agency, NEMA to find ways of assisting displaced persons.

He directed the state Ministry of Water Resources and Environment as well as relevant agencies of government to use excavators and create emergency water channels to alleviate the sufferings of the people affected by the flood

Armed Robbers hijacked NNPC mega-station give free fuel to motorists in Katsina



Motorists along Katsina/Jibia road, on Saturday night, received free fuel at the Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation mega filling station located along the road from armed robbers who stormed the station and later cart away the day’s sales from the station.
Eyewitnesses said the incident occurred about 8 p.m.
The witnesses said innocent motorists who had wanted to buy fuel had driven into the hands of the armed robbers who stormed the station, posing as security agents

Court Orders Final Forfeiture of Diezani's N7.6billion to FG


A Federal High Court in Lagos has ordered permanent forfeiture of N 7, 644, 700, 000.00 belonging to former Minister of Petroleum Resources, Diezani Alison-Madueke, to the Federal Government. The money which is reasonable suspected to be proceeds of illegal activities was traced by the EFCC to an account in a new generation bank. It is said to among monies allegedly stashed in several local banks by the former minister.

Kano State government woos investors with land, tax incentives

Kano State Governor, Dr Abdullahi Ganduje, has said the state is ready to grant land and tax incentives to investors, in order to revolutionise agriculture and promote investments in various sectors.
Ganduje, at the 2017 yearly general conference of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) in Lagos, with the theme: “African Business: Penetrating throughInstitution Building,” made the pledge during the showcase session of “Investment Opportunities inKano State’’. “We have decided to make land acquisition very easy and speedy. There is a lot of red-tapism, and a lot of bureaucracies, and we decided to replace that ministry with the Bureau for Land Management,”

FG, US partnering on loot repatriation, says Osinbajo

​The President Muhammadu Buhari administration has reached out to the US government to increase its assistance in ensuring that corrupt officials do not get a safe haven abroad for their loot, Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, said on Monday.
The Vice President, who said this during the visit of a US Congressional Delegation to the Presidential Villa, said both countries were working on a prompt repatriation of the funds.
According to Osinbajo, “We have reached out to the US government with respect to helping with repatriation of proceeds of crime and proceeds of corruption.’’ Osinbajo, who was appreciative of the support given by the US so far said the Buhari administration regarded “corruption is an existential threat’’ that must be dealt with at its root. “We have worked quite closely with the US government on repatriation of funds. 

NLC asks Buhari to reshuffle cabinet, sack some ministers

​The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has called on President Muhammadu Buhari, toimmediately reshuffle his cabinet and relieve some of the ministers who have under formed of their duties.Speaking with Nigerian Tribune on the expectation of the organised Labour from the President Buhari, President of NLC, Comrade Ayuba Wabba, said two years down the line, President Buhari should reshuffle his cabinet because many of the ministers were not performing.
Wabba said there were lots of expectations from Nigerians, as the President arrived and that is why the anxiety is high when he was actually billed to return. 

Inflation drops to 16.05, says NBS


The Consumer Price Index (CPI), which measures inflation, dropped to 16.05 per cent last month, the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS), has said.
In its CPI July 2017 report released yesterday in Abuja, the NBS explained that the fall recorded was 0.05 per cent points lower than the 16.10 recorded in June, making it the sixth consecutive decline in the rate of headline inflation since January.

Sokoto Govt partners private firm to establish textile factory

Few months after it commissioned a new fertiliser company, Sokoto state government said it is partnering with a private firm to establish a textile factory in the state.

The company, to be situated at Kalambaina in Wamakko LGA of the state, will have the capacity to produce 20,000 metric tonnes of finished products and will provide employment opportunity to approximately 2,000 people.

Speaking to reporters on the project, the Special Adviser to Governor Aminu Waziri Tambuwal on Public Private Partnerships (PPP), Alhaji Bashir Gidado, said all arrangements have been concluded for the successful take off of the project.

"We're partnering with a company, Hijra Nigeria Ltd, to establish a textile factory in Sokoto. The state government will have a 40 percent equity state in the company and we expect to start production towards the end of 2017.

"As you may be aware, we have abundant raw materials in the state. A large section of our people are cotton farmers so this company will provide a ready market for their products. We are also in touch with others from neighbouring states like Katsina, Kebbi and Zamfara.

"By the time the company is fully on stream, it will provide employment opportunities, create wealth and enhance the socio-economic well-being of the people of the state," he added.

Gidado said the state government will continue to explore the advantages in PPP arrangement because it has proven to be successful in other climes.

"In May this year, a new organic fertiliser plant was commissioned here in Sokoto. The government stake in that is also 40 percent. We have enjoyed the benefit of working closely with private investors so I am confident this textile initiative will also come on stream as scheduled," he said.

According to him, work on the project has already reached 70 percent completion, saying the only thing left is to install some components of the machines which are being awaited for delivery from abroad.

President Buhari Receives Briefing, Delighted At Improving State Of The Economy


President Muhammadu Buhari on Monday received briefings from some ministers and Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Godwin Emefuele, on the state of the economy.
Buhari, who was in the United Kingdom for 103 days on medical vacation, expressed delight at the improving economy.
The ministers, who briefed the President, included the Minister of Budget and National Planning, Udoma Udo Udoma and the Minister of Finance, Kemi Adeosun.

The Governor of Kano State His Excellency Dr Abdullahi Umar Ganduje OFR flagged off, the nationwide advocacy on agricultural quality control and standardization - Zero Reject Initiative.
In his remarks, Governor Ganduje expressed his delight for the selection of Kano for the flagging off of the initiative, and welcomed all stakeholders to this 2 day event. How ginger is gingering Kaduna farmers to better living


Ginger from Kagarko, Jaba and Kachia local government areas in southern Kaduna, also the major ginger producing areas in Nigeria, is reputed to be the world’s best.
Ginger is produced in large quantity in Nok, Tsakiya and Kwoi  in Jaba LGA, Walijo, Maraban Walijo and Gidan Mana  in Kachia LGA and Kubacha, Aribi and Katugal in Kagarko LGA, all in Kaduna State.
Ginger is one of the most widely used food seasoning in modern diets. It’s actually part of the plant family that includes turmeric cardamom which may explain why the health benefits are so extraordinary.
According to the enchanter dictionary, ginger comes from rhizomes. A rhizome is an underground stem that grows horizontally and forms roots downwards while leaves and new stems sprout top. Buds then form at intervals along each stem. The Chinese and Indians have used ginger tonics to treat ailments for over 4,700 years, and it was a priceless commodity during the Roman Empire trade because of its medicinal properties.

Federal university Gusau (FUGUS) sets 170 as cut-off marks for admission


The Federal University Gusau (FUGUS) has announced 170 as minimum mark for the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB) cut-off marks for admission into the University for the 2017/2018 academic session.
The Information Officer of the University, Malam Umar Usman disclosed this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Gusau on Saturday.

Saturday night Flood washed away seven communities in Makurdi


Benue Radio Station, Wurukum Market and seven other communities have being submerged following Saturday night heavy downpour in Makurdi.
The State Commissioners for Land, Survey and Solid Minerals, Mr Bernard Unenge, and Water Resources and Environment, Mr Joseph Utsev went round the town for situation report on Sunday.
Ustev explained that the ministry needed adequate funds to mitigate the situation, adding that the disaster was caused by blocked drainages in some areas.

The Famous Borno Customized Tricycle Guy


A young man from Borno state got noticed by commuters after he was spotted riding a customized tricycle on the streets of Maiduguri, in Borno state.
According to media reports, the young man designed the tricycle from a bicycle as he added an engine to that enable it to move faster and also a generator set but the Tricycle only used the generator tank to save the fuel that the tricycle used.

Northern Elders Forum not happy with FG’s silence over herdsmen, farmers’ clashes in Nigeria


Seeks solution to growing agitation for restructuring
The Northern Elders Forum (NEF) is not happy with the federal government for its alleged silence on intermittent clashes between herdsmen and farmers in different parts of the country.
It blamed the federal government for failing to evolve a nationwide transition programme for herdsmen to embrace ranching as a solution to the persistent clashes.
It therefore wants government to step in immediately and address the problem for peace to reign.

Senator Isah Misau accused IGP Ibrahim Idris, of pocketing 120 billion Naira for special security service


Senator Hamman Misau, representing Bauchi Central, has accused the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Mr. Ibrahim Kpotun Idris, of collecting about N120 billion as bill for special security services.
Misau said such unreasonably exorbitant security services are being rendered to corporate bodies, such as oil firms, and highly placed individuals on yearly basis across the country and condemned what he called “series of fraudulent practices in the running of the Nigerian Police.”

Groups issuing quit notices are saboteurs who want to destroy Nigeria - Balarabe Musa


Former Kaduna governor Balarabe Musa has said that “saboteurs” were behind groups issuing quit notices to Nigerians living in some parts of the country.
Musa, who condemned such notices in a telephone interview with the News Agency of Nigeria(NAN) on Saturday, said that the development was a threat to Nigeria’s unity.

Katsina State Governor’s special adviser on Child Education, Hon. Binta Abba has reunited with her missing son.
The young boy, Sulaiman Abba, after 3 years of his disappearance, was found in Lagos.
He was found by his uncle, an EFCC official who stumbled upon him by the roadside on a street Lagos.

FG approves new rail lines from PH-Maiduguri, Enugu-Makurdi, Jigawa-Niger Republic, Kano-Katsina and others


President Muhammadu Buhari has approved a rail line from Kano to his hometown in Katsina, Jibia local government areas of Katsina state.
This was disclosed by Rotimi Ameachi, the minister of transportation, at The Osasu Show Symposium — which bothers on the economy and its effects on the less privileged — in Abuja on Friday.
According to Ameachi, the president also approved rail lines from Port Harcourt to Maiduguri, Kano to Maiduguri, Makurdi to Jos, Gombe to Yobe to Borno, Jigawa to Niger Republic.
Amaechi said the transportation infrastructure in Nigeria has been mismanaged for many years, and so much has to be done to restore the railway activities, and drive the economy.

FG Seeks Kanu’s Rearrest, Asks Court to Revoke Bail


The Federal Government has filed an application seeking the revocation of the bail granted to leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu.
In a motion on notice brought pursuant to section 169 and 173 (2) (b) of the Administration of Criminal Justice Act (ACJA), 2015, government sought an order of the court revoking the bail granted the IPOB leader on April 25, 2017.
It also asked the court for an order for his arrest and detention in custody pending trial.

Bauchi, Nasarawa state governors emerged winners of Nelson Mandela Leadership awards 2017


Governor Tanko Al-Makura of Nasarawa State, his Bauchi State counterpart, Muhammad Abubakar as well as the National Secretary of the Caretaker Committee of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Sen. Ben Obi, have emerged winners of the 2017 Nelson Mandela Leadership awards.
They were honoured at this year’s international roundtable on political development in Africa, organised by the Save Democracy Group (SDG) Africa in partnership with the South African High Commission in Nigeria, to propagate the ideals and values of which the late icon lived and represented.

Kogi Assembly Crisis: IGP Invites Speaker, Two Others As 10 Suspects Arrested


The Speaker of the Kogi State House of Assembly , Matthew Kolawole was, on Thursday evening, picked up along with 10 others and whisked away to the  Force headquarters, in Abuja, for their alleged role in the invasion of thugs into the Assembly three weeks ago.
Recall that the Assembly was invaded on August  1st by some thugs, and beat up   a lawmaker ,Hon. Friday Makama, vandalizing some vehicles and the assembly chamber.
A source close to the Assembly said Kolawole was pick with some lawmakers to explain their roles in the invasion after the police had watched the video clip of all that transpired at the Assembly that day.

Almost as soon as Toke hung up, a text message came into my phone. I quickly opened it, thinking it was some follow up gist.

 I was pleasantly surprised when I saw a message from Hawt Pastor, asking that I ensure I did not miss church for any reason the next day, since it had been so long ago he had seen me in church.


The next day, I went to church again after a long time. After the wedding thing, in which I had deliberately chosen not to follow his (sound) advice, our relationship had been sort of frayed.

Sokoto Govt, Sultanate Council, order for special prayer for Buhari

Sokoto state government, in conjunction with the Sultanate Council, is organizing a special prayer session at all jumaat mosques across the state for continued health of President Muhammadu Buhari.

A statement issued Thursday evening by Malam Imam Imam, the spokesman of Governor Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, said while Tambuwal will attend a meeting of Governors with the President in Abuja, state Deputy Governor Ahmed Aliyu, top Government functionaries will join Sultanate Council officials at a prayer to be held at the Sultan Bello Mosque in Sokoto.

In the same vein, all Imams have been directed to lead prayers in their localities for continued good health of President Muhammadu Buhari.

"In the same vein, Sokoto pilgrims have been informed of the need to use the occasion of the last ten days of the Dhul Hajj in the Islamic calendar, which are holy days, to intensify prayers for the good health of the President and peace and stability of the nation.

"The government equally urged all individuals to privately pray for our beloved leader after his return to the country from medical vacation," the statement added.

Kano People in Massive Rally For President Buhari


Supporters of President Muhammadu Buhari in hundreds stormed the late Sani Abacha stadium in Kano state, to show support and pray for the president. Vanguard reports that the rally which started few days before President Muhammadu Buhari returned from his medical vacation has continued since then, with different pro-government groups showing solidarity to the president.
The people of Kano State are currently gathering for a massive rally in show of solidarity with the safe return to the country of President Muhammadu Buhari.

According to our reporter, people who had gathered from all parts of the state in the centre of the city, are said to later marched to the Governor’s Office where Governor Ganduje is expected to address them.
