As part of activities marking the World Breastfeeding Week, the Kebbi State Government has approved the setting up of breastfeeding centres/rooms in Ministries, Departments and Agencies in the State.
This is in line with the international recommendation to make work places more condusive for working mothers. It is also commemorate with the National Nutrition Campaign Push by Her Excellency Wife of the President Hajiya Aisha Muhammad Buhari across the Country.
To this effect, the wife of the President Her Excellency is expected to commission the first two breastfeeding rooms on Monday, August 6th 2017 at the Gwadangaji Secretariat in Birnin Kebbi.
The initiative is aimed at improving the conditions of working mothers as well as enhance their productivity in their respective places of work.The week will also provide an opportunity for initiating advocacy drive, mobilisation and support for extension of maternity leave, from Four to Six Months across the Country.
The level of exclusive breastfeeding in Nigeria is currently 17% and 5million children are at risk of malnutrition each year due to this poor start.
However, Her Excellency wife of the Kebbi state governor Dr Zainab Shinkafi BaThe gudu has called for support from traditional, religious leaders and all other relevant stakeholders to join her in this drive so that together they can reduce the prevalence of malnutrition and stunted growth among children in the state.
