The Kebbi State Hisbah Committee recovered 21 abandoned babies and
13 abducted spinsters between January and December 2017.
Alhaji Abubakar Augie,
the state’s Director of Shari’a, made this known in Birnin Kebbi on Wednesday.
He said 82 cases of
missing children were resolved and all the children had been reunited with
their parents.
He added that the
committee resolved 327 disputes between spouses, friends, parents and children,
among others.
Augie said “let me use
this opportunity to appeal to parents to monitor the whereabouts of their
children at all times and to be mindful of their activities among peers.”
The director explained
that 33 youths were arrested for drug addiction and were handed over to the
appropriate authority for rehabilitation and counseling.
He appealed to the
state government to resuscitate the 21 local government Hisbah offices for
smooth operations, noting that “the work of the committee is enormous and
offices in local councils must be up and doing.
“The offices also need
the support of state government, as well as other security agencies.”
Meanwhile, the
Nigerian Security and Civil Defense Corps (NSCDC) in Kebbi said it had resolved
220 civil cases within the period under review.
The Commandant, Sammani
Ringim, said the corps also resolved 16 disputes between farmers and herdsmen
within the period.
He said “we resolved
220 civil disputes and settled 16 disputes between herdsmen and farmers from
various communities in the state from January to December in 2017.
“Most of the clashes
between herdsmen and farmers were caused by increase in dry season farming that
denied herdsmen of grazing land.
“We settled the
clashes amicably by deploying agro-rangers in Augie, Argungu, Bagudo and Suru
local government areas of the state.”
Ringim said the
command also handed over six rapists to the Police Command in the state who
were
subsequently prosecuted. S
