The Communities of Ketare district in Kankara Local Government
area, Katsina state have appealed to the State Universal Basic Education Board
(SUBEB) to come to their aid by renovating and upgrading their primary schools
in the area.
The affected schools are
Ketare Model Primary School built in 1947, the oldest school in the district,
U.K Bello Primary School Gamzamawa and Unguwar Mai Gari Primary School Kuka
Sheka, a school built through community efforts.
The Kanwa of Katsina and District Head of Ketare, Alhaji Usman Bello Kankara
made the request when he led other community leaders from the area on a
courtesy visit to the chairman of the State Universal Basic Education Board
(SUBEB), Alhaji Lawal Buhari Daura.
Bello said the primary
schools need urgent attention of the state government due to their bad
condition, noting that “Primary one pupils of U.K Bello primary school
Gamzamawa are currently taking lessons under trees due to lack of classrooms
while rainstorm has destroyed Unguwar Mai Gari Primary School Kuka Sheka making
them inhabitable.
“The schools need renovation
and upgrade. Government should build additional blocks of classrooms, offices
and also provide enough tables and chairs to make teaching and learning
conducive in the schools.”
He said the primary schools
were accommodating a large number of pupils, who depend solely on them for
their primary education in the area.
Responding, the Chairman,
Katsina State Universal Basic Education Board, Alhaji Lawal Buhari Daura
commended the foresight and concern of the district head for the educational
development of his people.
Daura promised to look into
their request for prompt action and noted that the state government’s doors
were always open for support and advice on how to move the education sub-sector
forward.
