Newly-wedded bride arrested for poisoning husband to death in Kano


The Kano State Police Command on Tuesday confirmed the arrest of Sadiya Umar, a teenage bride, who allegedly poisoned her husband, Umar Sani, to death two weeks after their wedding.
The late Sani who allegedly ate the poisoned meal served by his newly wedded wife, died a day after the incident while receiving treatment at the Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital (AKTH).

The incident occurred at Yakasai Quarters, within the Kano metropolis.
The spokesman of the Kano Police Command, Magaji Musa Majia, said the woman was arrested two days after she evaded arrest.
“Three relations of the late husband reported the incident to Kofar Wambai police station in the Kano metropolis. After the police received the report, they went to the deceased matrimonial home at Yakasai quarters to effect her arrest, but found that the bride had ran away until yesterday when she was eventually arrested.”
Majiya added that the woman has already been handed over to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) for interrogation.
He also confirmed the burial of the late husband.
