Boko Haram top member surrenders – Army

A high ranking member of the Boko Haram terrorist group, Mr Bulama Kailani Mohammed Metele has surrendered to 145 Task Force Battalion, 5 Brigade troops at Damasak.
Brig.-Gen. Sani Usman, Army spokesman made this known in a statement on Saturday in Maiduguri.
Usman said that Metele, from Tumbun Bera in Borno, belonged to Mamman Nur’s faction of the terrorists group under the leadership of Abu Mustapha.
He said that Metele was of serial number 253 on the Nigerian Army’s wanted Boko Haram terrorists poster produced recently.
“He is currently undergoing further interrogation,’’ he said.
Meanwhile, Usman said that two suspected Boko Haram terrorists carrying out surveillance on Kareto and Dangalti villages had been arrested by troops of 158 Task Force Battalion of 5 Brigade based on information.
According to him, preliminary investigation shows that they are on reconnaissance mission to facilitate possible attack on the communities. (NAN)

Katsina APC treasurer, 4,000 others dump party

The Treasurer, All Progressives Congress (APC), Katsina State, Nasiru Usman has dumped the party for the Peoples Democratic Party PDP alleging  maltreatment and injustice therein.

Usman who decamped alongside other 4,000 APC members in Kankia Local Government Area said the APC had neglected them.

According to him, the party has been hijacked by few  executives delegating many to the background. 

''I remained suspended for 14 months after which I petitioned to the APC Northwest where it directed for the withdrawal of the suspension, but the state headquarters refused to comply", he added.

Also speaking, the party's 2015 gubernatorial candidate, Musa Nashuni, said that PDP as a party has learnt a lot since the last general election and will build on that to bounce back.

On his part,the state PDP chairman, Salisu Majigiri assured the new entrants of equal opportunities within the party noting that 'we are committed towards reclaiming our lost mandate'.

All efforts to reach the APC chairman, Shittu Shittu for response proved abortive.

Pres Buhari appoints VP Yemi Osinbajo as NEMA Chairman

 President Buhari has appointed Vice President Yemi Osinbajo as the Chairman of the National Emergency Management Agency, NEMA. In a statement released by his special adviser on media and publicity, Femi Adesina, President Buhari also appointed Mustapha Yunusa Maihaja as the new Director-General of NEMA.

EFCC Arrest Fake Policeman in Kaduna State

 The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC Kaduna Zonal office, has arrested one Hussaini Mohammed of Tanko Road Barakallahu Kaduna State following a petition received from the Kaduna State Vigilance Service for alleged case of extortion, currency counterfeiting and impersonation of the Nigerian Police Force.

The accused, Mohammed, is alleged to have on several occasions disguised as a Corporal in the Nigeria Police Force having collected monies in order to secure the release of suspects from the Police. He was caught in the act while trying to extort money from another party.

Buhari okays deployment of four Ambassadors-Designate

President Muhammadu Buhari has approved the immediate deployment of four of the newly appointed Ambassadors-Designate.
This was contained in a statement issued by the Special Adviser on media and publicity, Femi Adesina,
The ambassadors-designate included Professor Tijjani Bande (Kebbi State), who is to proceed as Nigeria’s Ambassador/Representative to the Permanent Mission of Nigeria to the United Nations Headquarters in New York; Itegboje Sunday Samson (Edo State) is to proceed as Nigeria’s Ambassador/Deputy Representative, Permanent Mission of Nigeria to the United Nations Headquarters in New York; Kadiri Ayinla Audu (Kwara State) will proceed as Nigeria’s Ambassador/Representative to the Permanent Mission of Nigeria to the United Nations Offices in Geneva; Bankole A. Adeoye (Ogun State) to proceed as Nigeria’s Ambassador/Representative to the Embassy of Nigeria/Permanent Mission to the African Union in Addis Ababa.

I won’t mismanage Kogi’s funds – Bello

Kogi State Gov.Yahaya Bello of Kogi has condemned those describing his administration as non-inclusive, saying their criticism stems from his insistence not to share the state’s little resources to few elites.
Bello stated this while fielding questions from State House correspondents after joining President Muhammadu Buhari to perform the weekly Jumat prayers at Presidential Villa Mosque, Abuja on Friday.
According to him, contrary to such insinuations, the resources of the state are being utilised for the general good of the people of the state.
He expressed satisfaction that President Buhari was recuperating very well since he came back from vacation, adding that Nigerians should not relent in their prayers for him.
“We followed Mr President to perform Jumat prayers and we are happy that he is getting stronger and stronger by the day.
“We can only thank Almighty Allah for this wonderful job that he (Buhari) has done for this country.
“I only urge all Nigerians to continue to pray and give him all the necessary support. Nigeria is going to be better,’’ he said.
The governor revealed that the cases of kidnapping and armed robbery, which used to characterize the state, had been brought under control.
He said the state, under his stewardship, had changed drastically as a result of responsible leadership.
” Kogi is changing from the dark days to the present economic prosperity;  we are following our economic blueprint and things are changing, infrastructurally.
“The civil service is being reformed, pension too is being reformed and investors are coming in because we have largely secured the state,” he added.
On the nomination of Prof. Steven Ocheni as Minister to represent Kogi in the Federal Executive Council, Bello said the renowned professor would make Nigeria, people of Kogi and President Buhari, proud.
He thanked the president for nominating Ocheni, whom he described as “a versatile and workaholic’’ professor.
Similarly, Gov.Abdullahi Ganduje of Kano state lauded President Buhari for bringing peace and stability to Nigeria, especially for fighting the insurgency in the North Eastern part of the country.
Ganduje, who equally performed the Jumat prayers at the Presidential Villa together with the president, announced that with the restoration of peace, Kano state would be hosting an economic summit on April 24, to boost socio-economic activities in the state.
According to him, Kano, being a commercial town, will use the summit to explore other economic opportunities.

'Abacha loot' is media creation, he 'deposited' funds in foreign countries to buy arms for peacekeeping - Bamaiyi

 Former Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Ishaya Bamaiyi (rtd), has disclosed that what Nigerians refer to as 'Abacha loot' was media creation, saying that the late military Head of State, deposited funds to some 'friendly' foreign countries to enable Nigeria buy arms and ammunition for peacekeeping missions in the West African region.
