Welcome to the beginning of a New Year of the continuation of CHANGE in our beloved nation. I am aware that Nigerians have experienced a number of significant hardships over the past months. Living in the State House has not alienated me from your daily sufferings. I am aware of the lengthy queues at fuel stations and of the difficulties businesses have faced in acquiring foreign exchange.

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) says President Muhammadu Buhari’s responses at the Wednesday Presidential Media Chat were not only embarrassing but also further exposed his undemocratic character as an unrepentant tyrant who has no regard for the rule of law and the self-worth of Nigerian citizens.
The party, in a statement by its National Publicity Secretary, Chief Olisa Metuh, on Thursday also said the President confirmed his partisanship in the much-vaunted war against corruption by openly absolving his ministers and party members of corrupt practices.

Female suicide bombers now attack after asking water for ablution, defence chief warns Nigerians


The Chief of Defence Staff, General Gabriel Olonisakin, has warned that female suicide bombers have deployed a new tactic to carry out their nefarious activity. Speaking at the end of year conference with principal staff officers of the Defence Headquarters yesterday Dec. 30th, Olonisakin said that female bombers now get easy access to people's homes by requesting for water to perform ablution.

Nnamdi Kanu apologises to Pres. Buhari and Igbo elders


Leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra and founder of Radio Biafra, Nnamdi Kanu, has expressed regret for referring to President Buhari as a terrorist, evil and a paedophile during one of his programmes on his radio station on August 1st this year. Kanu tendered the apology for his comment against Buhari, Jonathan and others in a statement which he made to the DSS on October 23rd.

Shettima meets Civilian JTF, announces welfare package for members


Borno State Governor Kashim Shettima yesterday held a meeting with members of youth volunteers involved in counter insurgency operations popularly known as 'Civilian JTF' over the recent attacks by the sect group in the state. Dasuki is standing trial in three different courts in Abuja for alleged money laundering offences running into billions of naira.

Presidency votes N3.6b for BMW cars in 2016

A FLEET of new exotic cars is on the way for the Presidency.

The BMW salon cars for principal officers are likley to cost N3,630,000,000, going by the 2016 budget for the Presidency. The number of the cars is not specified.

Besides, N189.1m is voted for tyres for various vehicles, including the bulletproof and plain Mercedes Benz cars being used in the Presidency.

El-Zakzaky remanded in prison

Leader of the Shi’ite Islamic sect Sheikh Ibrahim El-Zakzaky was yesterday remanded in prison custody by a chief magistrate.

He was arraigned at the Chief Magistrates’ Court 1, Zaria Road, Kaduna and charged with criminal conspiracy and inciting public disturbances.

Some of his supporters were arraigned with him.

EFCC to arraign ex-PDP chair Bello, others for theft of N300m

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has revealed that a former National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party(PDP), Dr. Haliru Bello and his son, Abba, got N300million about 11 days to the presidential election.

The cash was drawn from the account of the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA) with Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).

Petrol to sell for N86 not N87 from Jan 1

MotoristS yesterday got a New Year present. Petrol is to sell for N86 per litre at Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) outlets.

Others will sell at N86.50k as against the present N87 per litre.

The Petroleum Products Pricing Regulatory Agency (PPPRA) said the prices would run from January 1 till March 31, under a revised pricing template.

PPPRA Executive Secretary  Farouk Ahmed broke the news to reporters in Abuja.

Within the new pricing template, the government approved two pump prices-one for NNPC retail outlets  and the other for retail outlets operated by private business concerns.

Buhari to hold his first media chat on tomorrow December 30th


President Buhari will host his first Presidential Media Chat tomorrow Wednesday December 30th by 7pm. A statement by the special adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina, states that the chat will be broadcast live on the network services of the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA) and the Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria (FRCN) and he will answer questions from a panel of journalists on a broad range of current national issues.

20 members of same family killed in Maiduguri BH attack


20 members of the same family were killed during the Sunday/Monday attacks by Boko Haram in Maiduguri, Borno state. The deceased were all buried in their family compound yesterday according to Muslim rites.

Man electrocuted while trying to steal electric cable in Kaduna


An unidentified middle aged man was electrocuted early Sunday morning while trying to steal electric cable at a power supply installation in Kaduna.
The traditional ruler of the area, Dan Iyar Unguwar Rimi, Alhaji Muhammad Gidado, confirmed the incident that happened at Accra Crescent by LEA Primary School, Unguwar Rimi.Gidado explained that the deceased tried to steal the 150mm four core up-riser cable at the distribution sub-station along Accra Crescent but got electrocuted instead.

Buhari says those indicted in arms deal scandal will be sent to jail


President Buhari says those who are found guilty in the $2.1 billion arms deal fraud will be sent to jail. He said this in a recent interview with BBC Hausa

CBN Insists It Won’t Reverse Restriction On Naira ATM Card Abroad

The Central Bank of Nigeria has said the decision of Deposit Money Banks to place a restriction on the use of Automated Teller Machine cards abroad by bank customers is due to scarcity of foreign exchange.
The apex bank said while it had no powers to reverse the restriction placed by the DMBs on the use of the ATMs abroad, the CBN was in support of the decision as it would assist in reducing the pressure on the naira.
So also did the apex bank in the country said it will now start selling foreign exchange directly to end users.

Dasukigate is blood money- Borno state gov, Kashim Shettima says


Borno state governor, Kashim Shettima has described the funds alleged to have been stolen in the $2.1 billion arms deal scandal which is now being described as Dasukigate on social media, as blood money. While playing host to Ladan Salihu, the director-general of the Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria in Maiduguri last week, Shettima said the “arms scandal” is a crime against humanity.
“The revelations from dasukigate have shown that some sections of the northern political class and their children were all involved in this massive crime against humanity. This is blood money. How Shi'ite Group Gave Birth To Boko Haram in 1997

Fresh revelations have emerged on how the Islamic Movement in Nigeria popularly known as Shi’ite started the Boko Haram insurgency in the country as far back as 1997.

Christmas: Muslim youths, imams worhip with Christians in Kaduna



 No fewer than 150 Muslim youths and Imams worshipped together with Christians during Christmas service in Kaduna to strengthen peace, unity and religious tolerance in the state, the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports.

Pastor Yohanna Buru, the General Overseer of Christ Evangelical Intercessary Fellowship Ministry led the service in Kaduna.

Buratai assures North East residents of peaceful region in 2016

The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt.-Gen. Tukur Buratai, has assured residents of the North East of a more peaceful region in 2016.
He gave the assurance on Thursday after his operational visits to troops locations in parts of Borno and Yobe states.

Tambuwal Meets Shagari As Sokoto Builds Teachers’ Villages

Sokoto State governor Aminu Tambuwal has said that the state government will build teachers’ villages in various districts across the state.

He also stated that monetary and other incentives will be introduced to all teachers posted to rural areas in order to ginger them to give their best for the development of education in the state.

Kaduna Refinery begins producing 3.2m litres of petrol daily, says NNPC

The Kaduna Refining and Petrochemical Company (KRPC) has begun daily production of 3.2 million litres of petrol.
This was contained in a statement signed by Ohi Alegbe, Group General Manager, Group Public Affairs Division, Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), on Wednesday in Abuja.
It said that the plant began production with an initial PMS yield of about 1.5 million litres, adding that it had ramped up its daily yield to 3.2 million litres.
