Dogara urges traditional rulers to fight for constitutional roles

Speaker of the House of Representatives, YakubuDogara, has urged traditional rulers to devise  proactive measures toward complimenting the National Assembly in allotting constitutional rolesto the old institution.The speaker, who spoke at the palace of  the Lamido of Adamawa during a courtesy visit yesterday, said the National Assembly was concerned about their present status and was poised to securing roles explicitly recognised by the constitution, according to a statement by his media aide, Turaki Hassan.“We want to employ you, your royal highness, as in the National Assembly we strive to give a role to traditional institutions, our leaders, our fathers, and parents that are in charge of these institutions must rise to the occasion as well,” he said.Dogara said as custodians of our culture, traditional rulers were better placed to help bring about change and transformation in the society.The speaker informed the monarch that he was inYola to visit Internally Displaced Persons and givethem a message of hope that sooner rather than later, government would ensure their return back home.Responding, the Lamido of Adamawa, Dr. Muhammadu Barkindo Mustapha, called on the executive and the legislature to put their differences aside and work to deliver on their mandates.
