Governor Tambuwal  approves upgrading of 6 Sokoto hospitals

Governor Aminu Waziri Tambuwal of Sokoto State has approved the upgrading of one hospital in each of the three senatorial zones of Sokoto state to premier health institutions.

Similarly, he said two General Hospitals are to be completely renovated while the state Amanawa Leprosarium is to be converted to an infectious diseases hospital.

A statement by Tambuwal's spokesman,Malam Imam Imam, said the Governor spoke Wednesday in Sokoto while addressing health stakeholders at the on-going 56th annual conference of the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA).

The statement said the projects will come on stream while government continues with its earlier plan establish cardiac and renal centers to ease the hardship of transporting patients for treatment to other countries.

He said in order to adequately preserve drugs and other items, the state government, in collaboration with USAID and other development agencies, recently renovated, equipped and commissioned two blocks of storage facilities at the State Central Medical Stores.

"Let me announce here that plans are at an advanced stage to launch emergency centers for treatment of road traffic accident cases along major highways in the state.”

"As I have often said, healthcare delivery is one of the priority areas of this administration. As you may be aware, we have established the state primary healthcare development agency and brought all health facilities, staff and funding under one management unit. “

"The state has also approved the procurement of cold chain equipment, generators, walk-in cold rooms and construction of satellite stores in the 23 LGAs and zonal offices in the state," Tambuwal added

He said due to the importance government attaches to work of doctors; his administration has supported the activities of NMA and will continue to assist the association to achieve its desired objectives.
