Issa Tchiroma Bakary, Cameroon’s communications minister and government spokesman, announced the capture of the Emir of Boko Haram Boukar Kaou and five other insurgents. In a statement issued by the government, he said that the operation was placed underthe aegis of the multinational joint force (FMM) of the African Union supported by soldiers of the Operation “Emergence” in perfect synergy with the Nigerian military.
Bakary said the attack has also helped to arrest five terrorists while 58 others were definitively neutralized, to recapture several arms and ammunitions comprising AK47 assault rifles bows and arrows, swords, spears, axes, knives and various propaganda objects. This powerful raid also resulted in the freeing of 46 captives, comprising 15 Nigerians and 28 children who were taken to Cameroon. The Cameroonian official said that the assault on Boko Haram positions in the forest of Madawaya has confirmed that the area was home to new training camps where the insurgents who escaped earlier offensives had withdrawn.
The minister added that the destruction of their training camps have made the governments of Cameroon and Nigeria to realize that the forest served as the main training ground for suicide bombers and child fighters that regularly attacked the twocountries. He says none of the Cameroon and Nigerian forces were killed.
Boko Haram insurgents in recent years slipped back and forth across the frontier, often using Cameroon’s remote north as a rear base, acquiring arms, vehicles and supplies there.Since late November the Cameroon military has carried out operations in several border areas aimed at weakening the Nigeria-based militants.
