Traditional rulers to Buhari: Nigeria won’t disintegrate

Traditional rulers across the country have assured President Muhammadu Buhari that those beating the drum of division will fail.
The Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar III, spoke on their behalf at the Aso Rock Presidential Villa in Abuja yesterday at the breaking of Ramadan fast with the president.
Also present at the event were the Ooni of Ife, Oba Enitan Ogunwusi; the Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II; Etsu Nupe, Yahaya Abubakar; Gbom Gwom Jos, Da Jacob Gyang Buba; Obi of Onitsha, Igwe Alfred Nnaemeka Achebe; Osemawe of Ondo, Oba Victor Kiladejo; Olu of Ilaro and paramount ruler of Yewaland, Oba Kehinde Olugbenle.
The Sultan, in his vote of thanks, prayed for God’s guidance and good health for President Buhari, saying in order to have the desired peace, all Nigerians must continue to pray for their leaders and the nation.
“The traditional rulers council will continue to support the president in his drive to leave a legacy that future generation will be proud of,” the Sultan assured.
He also expressed optimism that with everyone’s commitment, Nigeria would soon surmount her current challenges.
President Buhari charged the nation’s traditional rulers to encourage their followers to cultivate the lands available, saying Nigeria must be able to feed herself in few years’ time.
“You should therefore encourage your followers  to get ready and grow enough food to feed ourselves. Tell our people who have lands to cultivate them even if it is to feed their family only,” Buhari told the royal fathers.
The president said he assumed office at a difficult time in the history of Nigeria, with the security and economic challenges.
Buhari, who said his government was recording progress on security, said the economic challenge was due to the neglect of the agricultural sector.
