Kaduna Disco acquires 50,000 prepaid meters

The Kaduna Electricity Distribution Company says it has acquired 50,000 prepaid meters to be distributed free to its customers in Sokoto, Kebbi, Zamfara and Kaduna States.The company’s Managing Director, Garba Haruna, announced this on Wednesday in Sokoto shortly after inspecting some power distribution and transmission facilities in Sokoto. Haruna was on the inspection tour with Yusuf Hamisu, the Chairman, Board of Directors of the company.He said: “We have ordered for themeters and they are currently in our warehouse in Kaduna.“The meters will be distributed free to our customers in the four franchise states based on their customers’ population. “The distribution of the meters is expected to be launched next month (September) by the Minister of Power, Mr. Raji Fashola. ”Haruna said the firm would focusattention on those areas that had been “energy-starved” in the distribution of the meters.He said the gesture was aimed at reducing the incidences of estimated billing of customers. Haruna also said the company was targeting no fewer than 100,000 new customers yearly.He said this was to shore-up the firm’s current customers’ base ofabout 400,000 in the four states.
