Bauchi to Distribute Free Drugs to Secondary Schools

The Bauchi State Government under the office of the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs has concluded plans to distribute drugs to secondary schools in the state. This was disclosed by the Commissioner, Alh. Nasurudeen Mohammed while handing over the drugs to officials of the Bauchi State Primary Health Care Development Agency (PHCDA)
Alh. Mohammed explained that the move was informed by a deficiency of drugs in some health facilities in the state, especially those in the interiors, and to compliment the efforts of the Ministry of Health to roll back the rot inherited in the sector.
The Commissioner also commiserated with the family of the Government Girls Secondary School student who lost her life recently.
He warned sternly against diversion and pilfering of the drugs meant for the schools. Adding that hoarding of the drugs from those it was meant for is a punishable offence.

Responding, the Director, Diseases Control and Immunisation, State Primary Health Care Development Agency (BASPHCDA), Dr. Ahmed Fanti, while receiving the drugs, lauded the move.
Dr. Fanti said the drugs would be distributed to all the 831 public senior and junior secondary schools in the state. He said over 1,000 health facilities in the state are under the agency, adding that these facilities will also be beefed up to meet the needs of the people.
He concluded by promising that the drugs will be put to intended use.
