Kogi State Governor Yahaya Bello yesterday directed permanent secretaries and heads of administration in the civil service to proceed on compulsory leave.
The governor, in a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Kingsley Fanwo, relieved the accountant-general of his position, while his deputy is to proceed on compulsory 30 days’ leave.
The statement reads: “I wish to confirm that Governor Yahaya Bello, has directed that permanent secretaries and heads of administration are to go on compulsory leave with immediate effect. The only exemptions in this category are people on acting capacity and the permanent secretary, Government House.
“The accountant-general has been relieved of his position, while the deputy will proceed on compulsory 30’ days leave.
“At the local government level, Directors of Local Governments (DLGs), treasurers, education secretaries and cashiers are to go on compulsory leave.”
It said the decision, which takes effect from today, is geared towards ensuring a more efficient and productive civil service.
