People with disabilities want a commission

Joint National Association of Persons with Disabilities (JONAPWD)Kaduna State Chapter has urged the state governor, Malam Nasir El-Rufai to expedite actions that will lead to the establishment of a commission that will take care of their affairs.
According to the group, the signing and passage of a bill that will lead to establishment of a commission for Disabilities Affairs as promised by Elrufai during his governorship campaign will help them greatly.
The commission, according to the group, if established, will take responsibility for the education, healthcare and protection needs of the people living with disability.

“Our social, economic, civil and political rights would be taken care of by this commission'' Kaduna State JONAPWD Chairman,Julius Shemangsaid.
Shemang said El-rufai, during his meeting with people with disabilities last years, promised to ensure passage of "Kaduna State Persons with Disability Rights Bill" into law.
"If Plateau, Ekiti and Lagos States can have a commission to better the lives of people with disabilities in their states why not Kaduna State which is the heart of the North? As a capital of the 19 Northern states in the country other northern states look up to Kaduna state leadership.''
"Whatever good or bad thing Kaduna starts all other 18 Northern states including Abuja where the national disability rights bill before National Assembly is pending passage with an essential commission, they will copy. We therefore stand on a commission in line with Article 4 of the convention on the rights of persons with disabilities which stipulates that''
"States parties should adopt all appropriate legislative, administrative, modifying or abolishing existing laws, regulations, customs and practices that constitutes discrimination against persons with disabilities including the protection and promotion of their human rights in all policies and programme" he said.
