Al-Makura Commiserates With Market Traders Over Masaka Market Fire Disaster

Gov. Umaru Al-Makura of Nasarawa State has commiserated with traders at the Masaka market in Karu Local Government Area over a fire outbreak which destroyed over 2,000 shops on Sunday morning.
A statement issued by the Special Assistant Media and Publicity to the Governor, Ahmed Tukur, on Sunday, regretted the devastation caused by the inferno and its effects on the victims.

He said the monumental loss of property to the disaster was a huge setback to the traders, the state and the country in view of the current economic recession.
Al-Makura urged the management of the market as well as the traders to always adhere to safety measures and avoid acts that could lead to fire outbreak.
The market caught fire at about 1:30 a.m. during which property worth millions of Naira were destroyed.
Mr Sunday Bala, Chairman of the Traders’ Association, told newsmen that the cause of the fire could not be immediately ascertained, saying that investigation would unravel its source.
He said that areas mostly affected by the inferno were the cosmetics and foodstuff sections of the market.
He appealed to the state government to establish a Fire Station at the market to avert future occurrence of the disaster.
