Jigawa State teachers kick against Local Government autonomy

The Nigerian Union of Teachers (NUT) Jigawa State Chapter today held a peaceful rally to the Government House to protest calls for granting autonomy to Local Governments.
The rally was led Chairman of the Union Comrade Usman Ya’u Dutse.
Comrade Usman Ya’u Dutse said the protest was a directive from the National Headquarters of the Union to show displeasure and disagree with the calls.
He said given autonomy to the third tier of the government would create unnecessary hardship to teachers, especially when it comes to salary payment and other incentives.

The chairman expressed satisfaction with the current arrangements and explained that any move to temper with the status quo will affect the educational sector, especially at the grassroots level.
Receiving the protest letter, Governor Muhammad Badaru Abubakar promised to study its content and act appropriately.
He gave the union assurances of the State Government to improve the standard of education especially at the basic level as no development will be achieved without improved education.
