Vigilante shoots self dead while testing a new charm


- A man has killed himself in Katsina state after his charm failed to work, the man identified as Ahmadu Maikare was a member of Isan Gona Vigilante group while members of the vigilante group fled immediately the incident occurred.

A man has killed himself in Katsina state after his charm, meant to protect him from gunshots failed to work. According to Daily Trust, a show of bravery turned awry as a member of Isan Gona Vigilante Group, Ahmadu Maikare in Katsina state shot himself dead while testing the charm. The incident was said to have occurred at Dubul village in Matazu local government area of Katsina state.

Maikare was said to have wrapped himself up in the charms, chanted incantations, picked up his own Dane gun and in the process of testing the gun charm shot himself to death. The Spokesperson of the Katsina Police Command, DSP Gambo Isah who confirmed the incident seized the opportunity to call on the general public to desist from patronizing fake traditional medicine sellers known in Hausa as (BOKAYE) who are endangering the life of citizens usually by given them fake charms/jazz for protection against gun shots. DSP Isah said “On 14/10/2017 at about 12:00hrs, one Audu Maikare ‘m’ of Gidan Maijimina village, Malumfashi LGA of Katsina state, a member of Isan Gidan Gona vigilante group Matazu, went to the house of vigilante group leader, one Samaila Rabiu ’m’ of Dugul village, Matazu LGA of Katsina state for an occasion. The said Audu Maikare used his own Dane gun to test a gun charm on his body and in the process, he shot himself to death. The Police patrol team were not informed on time as the victim was already taken away by his relations and buried according to Islamic rites. “The Command, however, is drawing the attention of the general public to desist from patronizing fake traditional medicine sellers known in Hausa as (BOKAYE) who is endangering the life of citizens usually by given them fake charms/jazz for protection against gun shots etc. Sometimes, giving them charms to be use for ritual purposes and as a result of which some young innocent girls up to the age of 3 months old are being raped through quest for materialism or worldly things,” DSP Isah cautioned. Similarly, the state command also said it has smashed a five member gang of notorious armed robbers who robbed one Mas’udu Adamu of his motorcycle boxer valued N170,000:00k in his resident in Kurulere village, Danmusa LGA, Katsina state. DSP Isah said the police made the arrest based on tip off information given to it. “One Ali Bammi ‘m’ aged 20yrs of the same address, who went to the house of the victim few minutes before the armed robbery incident was arrested and made useful statement which led to the arrest of the following suspects: Beti Usaini ‘m’ aged 20yrs, Ibrahim Saidu ‘m’ aged 19yrs, Murnai Abubakar ‘m’ aged 21yrs and Surajo Saidu ‘m’ aged 20yrs all of kurulere village, Danmusa, Katsina. “During the course of investigation one 3-Barrel Gun was recovered from their possession,” adding that “Investigation is on progress,” DSP Isah however said.
