Governor Kashim Shettima was in Biu to condole the people of the
Local Government over the sad incident of Saturday 2nd September, 2017 when two
female suicide bombers detonated bombs at two locations in Biu main market.
Eighteen people lost their lives while fifty seven were injured out of which about twenty people are still in the hospital receiving treatment.

The Governor paid
homage to His Royal Highness, the Emir of Biu, Alh Mai Umar Mustapha Aliyu on
arrival where he sympathized with him and the victims.
The Governor expressed his deepest condolences to the Emir and the
entire Emirate council over the incident as he assured of his administration’s
commitment to take all necessary measures to prevent future occurrence of such
ugly incident.
He made cash donations to the victims and released funds for the
immediate renovation of the destroyed parts of the market.
Governor Shettima also announced the recruitment of additional 500 Civilian JTF to beef up security in Biu town. The CJTF will be equipped with the necessary tools to enhance their operations.

The Governor urged the citizens to be vigilant and report any
suspicious activities to the security forces.
The Emir thanked Governor Shettima for the condolence visit,
prayed Allah to avert future occurrences of the ugly incident and called on the
people to be prayerful and carry out their normal business.
Earlier in his remarks, the Secretary, Biu Local Government,
Mal. Awomi Nkeki Chibok thanked the Governor for his visit and briefed him on
the incident; casualties, how their Royal Highnesses, the Emir of Biu and the
Emir of Shani immediately rushed to the General Hospital after reserving news
of the incident and provided cash assistance to the victims. The Governor was
informed of donation of drugs to the hospital by the Chief of Air Staff, other
gestures and condolences to the deceased families by Senator Ali Ndume, the
Member House of Representatives, Hon. Muktar Betara and Member Borno State
House of Assembly representing Biu, Hon. Kachalla.
