Zamfara Assembly Moves To Empower State’s Hisbah Commission

The Zamfara state House of Assembly plans to ammend the law guiding the operations of the state Hisba Commission in order to enhance its operations.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the assembly in its plenary session on Tuesday directed its committee on Religious Affairs, Judiciary and Special Duties to review the law with a view to making the necessary ammendement.

The leader of the House, Alhaji Isah Abdulmumin while moving the motion said the house had received various complaints from many stakeholders on the need to review the law so as to enhance the operations of the commission to carry out its duties effectively.

“We need to ammend the law of the commission because it was established since 2003 and from 2003 to date things have changed.

“So we need to do some amendments so that to allow the commission to operate smoothly, ” the house leader said.

He urged members of the assembly to support the motion so as to make the operations of the commission more effective and result oriented.

Seconding the motion, the chairman of the House Committee on Religious Affairs, Malam Aminu Danjibga (Tsafe South) described the move by the house as timely and a welcome development.

Danjibga said that there was need for the amendment of the law to enhance shari’a implementation in the state.

Speaker of the house, Alhaji Sanusi Rikiji said that there is need for the ammedement of the law especially the way social vises is increasing in the state.

“As a state that is implementing Sharia, we cannot allow such to continue, “he said.

Rikiji, therefore, urged the committees to make wider consultations while conducting their assignment.

“You should liase with relevant stakeholders, relevant government organisations and religious bodies in order to succeed in your assignment”, he said.

NAN reports that the committee was given two weeks within which to submit its report.

NAN also reports that the state Hisba Commission had made several complaints against its in ability to carry out its duties effectively in the state. (NAN)
