Niger State Government Declares Emergency in Water Sector

Niger State Government Declares Emergency in Water Sector
Niger State Governor, Alhaji Abubakar Sani Bello, has declared an “emergency” in the water sector and vowed to bring down all the challenges hindering supply of potable water to the people especially in the urban centres.
The governor’s declaration came on the heels of a marching order he also gave the management of the state water board to “to fix the Chanchaga water water works or be fired”.
Governor Bello’s action was sequel to unscheduled visits to the Chanchaga Water Works where he found that some equipment imported to make the facility functional were not installed.
The governor, who had been briefed by the Commissioner for Water Resources Idris Abubakar Azozo that the remaining equipment were to be shipped to the country from Germany to make their installation complete, disagreed totally with the commissioner.
“No please, fly the equipment to the country, shipping takes time and water problem in Minna is an emergency. We cannot afford to delay in fixing it,” the governor said.
