Kano Agog As New Ciroma Is Turbanned

On the 4th day of December, 2015, Nasir Ado Bayero, the erstwhile Turakin Kano was turbaned as the new Ciroman Kano by His Highness, the Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II at the Emirs Palace, Kano. He was first turbaned the Tafidan Kano on May 6th, 1994 by his late father, Emir Ado Bayero and by the year 2000, he was elevated to the position of Turakin Kano.

This appointment which was done sometime in November this year was to the delight of many who have watched Nasir Ado, the new Ciroma’s commitment to the cause of his father the late Emir of Kano, Alhaji Ado Bayero and by extension the entire emirate of Kano. Emir Sanusi of Kano also collaborated this point. According to him, he appointed “Nasir Ado Bayero the Ciroman Kano because of his loyalty and obedience to the late Emir Ado Bayero”. Buttressing his point, Emir Sanusi stated that he “conferred this title on Nasir Bayero as a reward for his loyalty and obedience to our father, the late Emir Ado Bayero while he was alive”, stressing that Alh. Nasir Bayero really deserves the title.
His Highness the Emir did not end there. Listen to this, “we know and the whole world also knows that you have really shown extreme loyalty and obedience to our father. We commend you for that and we implore you to uphold those good characters. We should try to maintain our good relationship and also enhance it for our own good. We should try not to allow anything to divide us”, he added in reference to the newly Turbaned Ciroma. It is believed that Nasir Bayero has been of tremendous value to the great emirate of Kano.
In the views of many of his admirers, Alh. Nasir Ado Bayero, the Ciroman Kano has been a firm believer in the sanctity of the traditional institution following which he has devoted most of his working life and remains an incurable optimist about its future. It is against this background that many people believe that Nasir Ado Bayero must have accepted this appointment because it is, in their own words “a call to duty”. Going forward, they assert, running away from this assignment will amount to a negation of one’s believes and value system as well as virtues. He therefore had to rise to the challenge.
Nasir Bayero, the new Ciroma is a man of impeccable pedigree and integrity who cannot be called to question on matters of moral uprightness and probity. Quietly and treading softly, the Ciroma has made indelible marks on a great number of people by empowering them through different manners with strides that are phenomenal. Through him, many people have realized their aspirations, individually and collectively. Emboldened by affection and display of love by the general public, Ciroma’s comforting and pleasant charm has now come to the open. Further still, simplicity is said to be one of Ciroma’s additional sources of virtue. Ciroma, a gentle man of no mean repute, is known to focus on achieving greatest good for a large number of people.
At the turbanning ceremony, I decided to share my thoughts with a few people standing beside me. True to type, those I spoke to all extolled his virtues in unison. By their own account, here is a man “who hardly abandon the needy to their helplessness”. On the whole, people have spoken approvingly of the new Ciroma.
Amidst wild jubilation, residents of Kano must still be struggling to come to terms with the mammoth crowd that came out both from within and outside the state to attend the ceremony. It was a perfect calendar of jubilation and nostalgia owing to the level of uncommon emotion that was on display. The thrills and excitement that enveloped the environment can only be imagined. The air was clearly that of joy. One could see it written all over the faces of the people. According to one Abdullahi Bello Habib, a resident of Kano who attended the event, it’s been long since they saw such a crowd; with the Ciroma being the cynosure of all eyes due to his personality and charm which added beauty and splendor to the event.
To many, the large turnout did not come as a surprise. Such rarity was the result of hard work, family loyalty and enormity of goodwill; through which he has made a great leap. The mood of the public was a reflection of the good tidings of love and the peace in his heart. A historic event, no doubt, there were also many groups of people who kept vigil throughout the night anxiously waiting for the turbanning slated for the next morning. It was obvious the entire city was at a standstill, evidence of Ciroma’s ardent and vociferous followership. Within and outside the palace, the venue of the event was a multitude of fans, well wishers and admirers of the Ciroma. Looking at their faces, their joy knew no bounds as they celebrated. The affection displayed by the people was deep and electrifying. As testified by many, it is impossible to meet Nasir Ado Bayero, the Ciroma Kano and not be hit by his simple and humane disposition. This was aptly collaborated by Bello Habib in his comment elsewhere in this piece.
A lot of people attributed this unprecedented event, successful as it was to God Almighty. To them, the popularity, appeal as well as the personality of Ciroma could only be a gift from God our Creator. There is no sweeter fortune in life than God being there for one. For me, one of the best qualities of Ciroman Kano, Nasir Bayero is his ability to balance mutual interests, family loyalty and the sustenance of harmony among his siblings as well as among friends through team and coalition building. This is partly what attracted so many followership to him; a followership so strong that beats one’s imagination as was evident in Kano on Friday, the 4th of December this year at the turbanning ceremony.
The diversity observed in the crowd that gathered to attend the event is a testimony that Ciroma is a detribalized person and a bridge builder who is imbued with traits for national consensus and cohesion. People came from all over the country and abroad. A lot of people were actually overwhelmed by the large crowd that gathered; coming from within and outside the state for the turbanning ceremony. The event which was well attended was full of life and thrill. It was clear people were happy and joyous. There were various forms of displays of culture and tradition in form of trumpet blowing, horse riding as well as tantalizing dancing steps by the people during the event.
The deafening ovation he got after the turbanning which as dazed many observes till today is an indication of how much people love, adore and cherish the Ciroma. It was undoubtedly a token of appreciation to him for being a unique personality – always standing for a noble cause.
A man of peace and courage, he believes that we are bound by our common humanity and therefore abhors discrimination of any kind. He possesses compassion in large quantum, a necessary quality of leadership. Little wonder, at all times he voices encouragement. Thumbs up for the new Ciroma.
