The Chairman of the Presidential Task Force on Rice and Wheat Production and the Governor of Kebbi State, GovernorAbubakar Atiku Bagudu has reiterated his desire and commitment towards Food security in the State and Nigeria using good quality seeds. The Governor made this known at a wheat seeds processing plant that was donated to the State by the Federal Government in Birnin Kebbi as part of the continued support for wheat production.The Governor who was impressed with the machines operations, interacted with farmers and mechanical operators at the Rima Basin Development Authority complexwhere he described the operations as one of the best in the country. He spoke on plans for the purchase of more machines for wheat farmers across the State and applaudedthe Federal Government for providing the machine on loan toKebbi State.Briefing the Governor about the seed cleaning machine, the Chairman of the Wheat Farmers Association who is also the former Programme Manager, Kebbi State Agricultural & Rural Development Authority (KARDA) Alhaji Abdullahj Saidu Argungu told the Governor that the Flour Mills of Nigeria has set conditions for buying wheat specifically cultivated with quality seeds which enabled Kebbi to acquire the machine on loan.The Chairman added that with the aid of the machine, the state could now produce, process, clean and bag wheat produce of 50kg bags ready for supply to Mills across Nigeria. He assured that the wheat produced in Kebbi can compete with any wheat produce nationwide and internationally.In separate contributions, farmers who supplied their wheat for processing expressed their confidence in the machines operations and commended the Lake Chad Institute in Maiduguri and the Kebbi State Government for bringing the machine to their doorsteps.The Governor has in recent times met with the Wheat Farmers Association of Nigeria, Flour Mill Association and the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development on severaloccasions on the National Level.
