Makarfi not sincere with reconciliation —Sheriff

Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Chairman, Senator Ali Modu Sheriff has expressed doubts over the sincerity of the Ahmed Makarfi-led National Caretaker Committee in the reconciliation process to end the lingering leadership crisis in the party.
He also accused governors elected on the platform of PDP of posing danger to the existence of the party.
Modu Sheriff stated this Tuesday in Abuja in a statement signed by his deputy, Dr. Cairo Ojougboh.
Modu Sheriff said Makarfi’s attitude in the reconciliation process was questionable and, a distraction to the well being of the party.
He urged the PDP governors to mind governance and leave party administration to the party.
He said: “They should execute party manifestos to enable the party to excel in future elections. The issue of governors being financiers of the party should be addressed so that the party will not encourage corruption. This is the only way we can institutionalize internal democracy in the party that has eluded the party in the past,” he said.

Modu Sheriff also dismissed the plan by the Makarfi group to form another political party.
The national chairman disclosed that he has received the report from the committee he constituted that toured the six Geo-political zones of the federation.
The committee interacted with members at ward, local government and state levels on the state of the party across the country.
Parts of the report of the committee said Nigerians want PDP to move above the issue of National Caretaker Committee as it was noted to be a distraction to the well being of the party.
The report also noted that members no longer want a cash and carry style administration of the party as exemplified by the National Caretaker Committee which was viewed as a faction belonging to the bourgeoisie and not the grassroots.
Members of the party further noted that what was needed was transparency without officials being bribed for tickets to contest public offices.
Modu Sheriff said his group would commence a tour of the country, starting from Benue State in the next two weeks and, directed all state chapters to update their ward registers for inspection.
