Niger State Governor, Alhaji Abubakar Sani Bello has described Alhaji Maitama Sule, Danmasani Kano as a nationalist to the core who consistently spoke on, and fought for Unity, peace and progress of Nigeria.
Governor Sani Bello attributed the notable technocrat as a patriotic Nigeria whose number one priority was to unify the Nation, irrespective of its distinct culture, tradition and religion.
The Governor in a statement by his Chief Press Secretary Malam Jibrin
Baba Ndace, described the death of Alhaji Yusuf Maitama Sule as huge
loss to the Emirate Council, people and government of Kano state and
indeed the nation as a whole.
Governor Sani Bello eulogized the deceased describing him as a highly detribalised Nigerian who, in various capacities, fought for the unity, peace and progress of the country since independence.
"The people and government of Niger State received the news with great shock and we send our deepest sympathy to our brothers and sisters in Kano and the country at large. Indeed, we are greatly pained by demise of this national icon, a man of high political pedigree, and a global orator in national and international socioeconomic issues".
He said words are of no significance in expressing the sorrow over the loss stressing that the deceased's great services to his father land were immeasurable and would forever remain indelible in the history of Nigerian nation.
The governor stated that the void left behind by the demise of the Octogenarian would be difficult to fill , but we have to take solace in the fact that his was a fulfilling and almost unblemished life in the service to the Creator and humanity.
The Governor prayed Allah to grant the soul of the deceased eternal peace, make Aljanna Firdausi his final abode and grant his family as well as the government and people of Kano state the fortitude to bear the loss.
Foremost northern leader and ex-Nigerian minister, Alhaji Yusuf Maitama Sule was a presidential candidate of the National Party of Nigeria but lost to Shehu Shagari, Former minister of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and an Ambassador to the UN.
Late Alhaji Yusuf Maitama Sule reportedly died in a Cairo Hospital, Egypt this morning according to a close family source.
