Yobe state government denies rumors of alleged immunization of children by unknown persons

The Yove State government has denied rumours of the alleged immunisation of children by unknown persons.
It was gathered that most public primary schools were shut following reports that unknown persons had infiltrated the schools and were immunising the children.
The report added said the vaccines were administered either on the neck or close to the umbilical cord, with huge monetary reward. This compelled parents to pick their wards from school.

But the government has described the rumours as “unfounded lies coming mischief makers”.
Commissioner of Health Dr. Bello Kawuwa said no donor agency, except the government, is responsible for all immunisation, adding that any intervention is always channelled through the ministry.
According to him, a team, comprising representatives of the ministry, chairman of Damaturu council, police, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) and NGOs, have convened an emergency meeting where it was discovered that the rumours are lies.
He urged the public not to panic but rely on credible channels of getting information.
Dr. Bello said over his years of experience and study as a doctor, he hasn’t found any history relating to immunisation on the neck and in the lower abdomen of a child.
