HURIWA wants govermnent to improve security in Mambila Plateau

A Taraba Youth Group has urged Acting President Yemi Osinbajo to improve security in the Mambilla Plateau to forestall reprisal attacks.
The group’s Coordinator, Nelson C. Len made the call yesterday.
He urged the Federal Government to release the technical security reports on the crisis, while warning advocates of emergency rule to desist from it.
Len, who is the Special Adviser to Governor Darius Dickson Ishaku on New Media, said an emergency rule would create “anarchy.”

According to him: “Those behind the call are enemies of peace and development, even as the call appears to have some political undertones.
“Osinbajo should disregard any call for a state of emergency and support the state government to establish sustainable peace in the state.”
The group stressed that the crisis, which has affected the Fulani and Mambilla ethnic groups, has created more security threats to the state.
Meanwhile, a Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO), Human Rights Writers Association of Nigeria (HURIWA) has urged Osinbajo to intensify efforts to release the six kidnapped students of Lagos Model School.
HURIWA made the call yesterday in a statement by its National Coordinator, Emmanuel Onwubiko and the National Media Affairs Director, Miss Zanaib Yusuf in Abuja.
It accused government of gross insensitivity for failing to ensure that the students, who were kidnapped over 50 days ago, are released.
The group expressed dismay at the inability of the Inspector General of Police, Ibrahim Kpotum Idris and the Director General of the Department of State Services (DSS), Lawal Musa Daura to unravel those behind the abduction.
It lamented that the children have remained incarcerated, even after their parents have allegedly paid over N30million to free them.
“We urge Osinbajo to establish a national anti-kidnapping joint task force to be composed of operatives of the crack teams of all the security forces in the country,” the statement added.
It added that kidnapping has diverse effects, which discourage foreign direct investors from coming to the country.
It threatened to take the matter to the United Nations Security Council to intervene to stop the killings of unarmed members of the public.
