The Vice Chairman PCNI Tijjani Tumsah, has commended Her Excellency, Ms. Amina J. Mohammed, Deputy Secretary-General of the United Nations on her commitment to Humanitarian and development issues facing the North East.
Tumsah further stated that the high level visibility she brings to humanitarian and development issues is an added merit in providing durable solutions to the challenges being faced by the country especially the North East.
In a statement released by the Head of Media and Communications of the PCNI, AlKasim Abdulkadir, Tumsah noted "the substantive progress in the scale up of humanitarian response by UN agencies according to the Human Response Plans which shares similar components with the PCNI's Buhari Plan for the North East"
Ms. Mohammed is being accompanied by Ms. Pramila Patten, the Special Representative of the Secretary-General on Sexual Violence in Conflict and Ms. Phumzile Mlambo Ngcuka, United Nations Under Secretary General and UN Women Executive Director.
The purpose of this high-level mission is to highlight the importance of women’s participation and leadership in peace, security and development initiatives, foster stronger women’s mobilization, bring added visibility to the consequences of conflict-related sexual violence on women and girls, and advocate for the inclusion of livelihood support in policy and programmatic response. The mission will also bring visibility to the roles women play in advancing prevention and the realization of the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals.
In this regard, Women Leaders and Conflict Affected Women and Girls will meet with the Deputy Secretary-General and delegation on Thursday, 20 July, 2017 at the National Centre for Women Development (NCWD). This meeting will provide opportunities to highlight the importance of women’s participation and leadership in peace, security and development initiatives, foster stronger women’s mobilization, bring added visibility to the consequences of conflict-related sexual violence on women and girls, and advocate for the inclusion of livelihood support in policy and programmatic response. The mission will also bring visibility to the roles women play in advancing prevention and the realization of the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals
