The chairman, Board of Trustees of the Peoples Democratic Party,
PDP, Senator Walid Jibrin, says he would have abandoned the party if the
Supreme Court had favoured the Ali Modu-Sheriff led faction.
The Supreme Court in Abuja had on
Wednesday recognised Ahmed Makarfi as the Chairman of the Caretaker Committee
of the PDP, in a long legal tussle that split the party into two factions.
Jibrin, who issued a terse
statement on his sick bed in Kaduna Thursday, where he is recuperating from an
ailment, said the judgment came at the right time for the PDP to put its house
in order before the next round of general elections in the country.
The BOT chair said the victory of
Makarfi at the court saved the party from extinction as many would have left if
the party had been handed over to Sheriff to lead.
He said, “I would have resigned
as PDP BoT chairman if Sheriff had won.”
Jibrin called on members of the
party to work together towards achieving a common goal now that the crisis in
the party was over.
