Progress made by the Kaduna State government in making Kaduna a business destination of choice has gained the recognition of Nigeria’s leading business daily, BusinessDay newspaper.
The paper has awarded Kaduna State the Governance and Competitiveness Award, which declares Kaduna State to be No 1 in the federation in terms of ease of doing business.
Using the World Bank criteria of assessing the ease of registering a new business, obtaining business licencing, favourable tax regime, ease of obtaining land and title documents among other things, Business Day also considered the number of businesses that the state attracted in selecting Kaduna State for the award.
Anthony Osae-Brown, Editor and Director of the paper, who led a team of some management staff of BusinessDay, formally announced the award to Governor Nasir El-Rufai in his office in Kaduna on Wednesday.
Mr. Osae-Brown said the Governance and Competitiveness Award for 2017 is given to Kaduna state after examining data from the public sector and other spheres. He stressed that in the past two years, a number of high profile investments have come into Kaduna state which demonstrated that the measures taken by the government in making Kaduna a choice destination for business are bearing fruit.
Commending the government for running Kaduna State with the swiftness, rigour and discipline, Mr. Osae-Brown noted that such a disposition encourages investors about the seriousness of the administration. He observed that the establishment of KADIPA as a state investment promotion agency is one manifestation of this seriousness.
Governor Nasir El-Rufai, who received the team from BusinessDay, urged the paper to use its medium to promote the investments that can spur much-needed economic growth and job creation across Nigeria.
Mr. El-Rufai said credit for the award should go the team at the Kaduna Investment Promotion Agency, KADIPA, whose board is chaired by Deputy Governor Barnabas Bala.
