Boko Haram: Military Intercepts Four Female Suicide Bombers Near Maiduguri

The Nigerian military in the early hours of Wednesday intercepted four female suicide  bombers near a checkpoint in Mafa, which is about 25km outskirts of the city of Maiduguri.


The Director of Army Public Relations (DAPR), Col. Sani Usman, who confirmed this in a statement, said that the suicide bombers were stopped with the cooperation of the Borno Youths Empowerment Youth, otherwise known as Civilian JTF at about 7.30am on Wednesday.

Usman said that preliminary investigation revealed that suicide bombers were earlier observed trying to bypass  a military checkpoint through a close by village before they were ordered to take the right road.

However, he said,  few metres short of the checkpoint , one of the bombers swiftly detonated her vest.

"The vigilant troops gunned down the other three suicide bombers before they carry out their nefarious acts," he said.

Sadly, he added, one of the Civilian JTF lost his live and four other persons sustained various degrees of injuries.

Usman said that the Nigeria Police Explosive Ordinance Device team in the area safely defused the unexploded Improvised Explosive Device (IEDs) carried by the other suicide bombers.
